I planted a climbing rose (Eden) about a month ago. Since then, I stop every day and brush or pick off the aphids, which are on the new leaves and buds. The problem is, sometimes there are small bugs with wings among the aphids. At first, I thought they must be lacewings, but then I looked more closely and I thought maybe they were just aphids with wings, which I read is how the aphids travel from bush to bush once the population gets to a certain saturation. I'm not sure I can take a picture since they're so small. Does anybody know which it might be? Obviously, it's an important distinction since I don't want to flick off the good bugs! They look like pictures I've seen of green lacewings, but they're just so small. I read lacewings are 1/2 to 3/4" long. These bugs are maybe the size of a large aphid, with small transparent wings.
Thanks for any help you can give!
CLOSED: Aphid with wings or Lacewing?
It sure sounds like an Aphid.... Lacewings have a long slender appearance. There may be little tiny ones, I don't know.
