Hi! It looks like its going to be great! Take lots of photos and share your progress with us! I love the rock wall, is it cemented together? I'm wondering how you're going to place the liner around it to keep water from leaking either through it or around the sides of it?? It is a great start though, can't wait to see it come together!!
Brenda
p.s. We just built our pond, and I learned so much from so many people on DG... and everyone asked me questions back that in some cases I hadn't even thought about, so they saved me some trouble. If you want to see how ours progressed, here's the link:

yes it is cemented in and i have thought about the linner too heheeheh but my hubby said to put dirt in there to hold it but i think i will put clay in there instead i was hoping someone could help me on this part lol thxs going to go look at yours i love ponds hehehehe
thxs
Or, you could place the liner around it and build more rocks up over the liner to hold it in place, stacking them up and around the wall to blend it in and hold the liner in place. Maybe some with more experience than me will chime in with opinions... Plain dirt or clay will probably erode quickly... so you might need to lay down the liner around the rock wall and secure it... you don't want to be re-doing liner in 6 months...
I love ponds, too! Lucky you, getting your own! If hubby is that artistic I trust he will work it out...
:)
Brenda
yes i love them and yes i thought about rocks also, which i think is better we will see i cant wait ready to play lol thxs
Looks like a great start. My pond gets very little sun as well - so I thought I'd share what grows in my pond....there are some varieties of water lilies will bloom with only part sun. Look for varieties that say they tolerate part shade. My pond is actually MOSTLY shade, but they still bloom for me. But even if they didn't, they are worth growing for the lily pads alone. I also successfully grow pickerell rush, water forget-me-nots, marsh marigolds, golden creeping jenny, and impatiens can be grown bare root in the water as well.
Keep us posted on your progress
OEM roofing liner is great to use. You can pick it up at a local roofing company.
Shellie
well thxs everyone
i need to know what filter systems you all recommend? i want to buy a good one and everything because i would like to put koi in it if possable but if not then subumkins(sp?) lol and also i have a liner (15' X 20') i know this is a stupid question but want to ask it anyway lol
how big and deep can i make it with a liner this size? like i told my hubby i will probably have to buy a new liner heheeh and i have read that it is best not to make shallow edges because i preditors does anyone else have shallow sides? plmk and thxs so much for helping i can already see this is going to be a long process but want to do it right so i dont have to redo it or end up with no fish thxs

does anyone know when is the last time to put the fish in so the can get used to the cold i want to get this done so they will go in there and wont get shocked from the cold?how long will it take them to get used to the pond before winter sets in? thxs i might have to wait and put them in next spring because i want to do this right thxs
looks like everything is progressing on pace. keep the pics coming.
bsavage - thats fantastic
Looking good so far... it looks like maybe you're planning a waterfall on the right of the pond that is lined? It looks like you've got steps dug out... when we had to overlap our liner, we thought we could follow the flow of the water and just overlap it and put rocks on it, but we found we had a lot of leakage that way. Had to go to the pond store and buy this seam sealing stuff... very expensive ($90.00!) and it was like a really heavy duty double stick tape that apparently completely bonds with the liner. But, it worked. Probably someone here can tell you a less expensive option for seaming, but you will need to seal it one way or the other.
Keep up the good work!
Brenda
ok i know i know it has taken me a long time to up-date you all but have been busy

What are you planning on using the concrete for? Glad to hear you are able to work on it again!
Brenda
the rocks
Okay, well I'm going to let the experts on concrete answer here, we didn't use any in ours. Maybe azreno (Lynn) has some good advice, she is the Queen of Concrete! Oh Lynn....
I think the concrete has to "cure" for 6 months before adding fish. Also waterlilies need 5 hrs sun a day minimum for good bloom. Looks awesome--gonna be gorgeous!!!
cure does that mean with water or no water in it? plmk and thxs
Hi Moretz,
With so much concrete you will want to cure it well before adding fish. Concrete will cure best (and quickest) with water in it (not with freshly laid concrete, let it harden first!). You could easily cure the concrete and leach out a lot of the lime by filling it with water for a month then changing out all the water, would be like starting any new pond at the point and you'll have a permanant Ph buffer!
Hi Brenda :o}
Hi Tommie, hope all is good with your move!
You rock, Lynn! ☺
Great job. No concrete in mine either, just tons and tons of rocks over a liner and a vault and pump. I dug and layed it last fall. After I did most of it, but my DH jumped in and helped with the liner and getting it all hooked up. I couldn't have done the liner very easily myself, but the rocks and digging where fun, just very tiresome. But good for this old gal. We love it. No fish as it is an endless stream. But most of the ones I have seen have no concrete, just liners and rocks. Can't wait to see yours done. This is the top 1/3 of ours. Plants from this coop will help fill in the existing plants if they come back after all my digging. Plus I planted a few thousand bulbs around it in Nov. Patti
