I Gotta Brag.

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

The Mountain Laurel (Kalmia) season is so short and mine didn't get damaged with bad weather this year.
This 6 foot tall specimen is 30 years old.

Very nice!

That's definitely brag material. Beautiful photos, as always.

You are so fortunate to be able to grow that plant, and to grow it so well. I believe it has got the prettiest flower of any shrubs. It's a fickle plant however. It simply will not grow here unless one is willing to jump through a dozen hair-raising horticultural hoops, and even then it will just barely limp along, blooming maybe once every two or three years. That's what mine does, and I know of no one else growing it any better or at all around here. But, three counties to the right, and it's a bonafide weed, growing everywhere.

Beautiful plant, great pictures. Thanks for posting them.

Nice Andy. My daughter Laurel always wants me to get one - too iffy for this area.

Thanks, everyone. It's my pride & joy. There are a few very old ones in the older residential sections of town. One I know of is about 100 years old.

Scott, too bad. They are a great plant if you have the time to wait, lol.
I'm on the edge of the hardy zone for Sweetgum trees. I had never seen one growing up in New Hampshire only 80 road miles north of here. We had one extremely cold and dry winter a few years ago and my 2 Sweetgum trees were very late to green up. It was close. I planted them 20 years ago in the front lawn, they are lookin' good now.

Al. I think it's more than "iffy" for you.
There are so many wonderful things to grow, who has room for it all.

Wow! Wish we could grow the plant here. Not a chance. Beautiful plant.

Mighty impressive, Andy; and mighty impressive age, too!

If you can find one that is cold hardy enough, they do a little better here than for Decumbent. Those that grow them are pretty happy just to keep them alive and looking good - with some yearly flowering. But I would think Al could have a bit easier going. I never knew they could be that floriferous.
