Nasty looking devil.

I need a pair of shades like that.

dwdruley, if the powers that be here agree that's what this wasp is, you should put it in Bugfiles. Its Family is not represented there yet, and your picture would be the representative for the Family Crabronidae by default, I guess...

claypa,

You have no idea how far in over my head I already am. The pic has no copyright because I figure no one wants to steal my stuff.

Please contribute this to Bugfiles under your name if it passes muster.

...and AndyP, what are you doing hanging out here?

Thanks,
Dave

Dave, I never know what I might pick up, lol.
To get something up on BugFiles, have 2 servers open at the same time. One window at BugGuide.net for your bug and one open to Daves BugGuide. Transcribe the details and add your pic. I still have a devil of a time doing this, unless the bug is already on Daves.

I'd rather give that privilege (and work) to he who ID'd it - claypa.

Since you're a friend, I'll level with you - I'm a lazy ole codger.

Whoops, it's time for beddie bye.

Dave, Kindred spirit. I'm kinda lazy too. LOL

Well since this wasp's Family is not in Bug Files, we can't load it anyway. Probably kennedyh will come along and hook us up, or we post this in the Bugfiles how-tos forum.
It is a great picture, I'll see if I can tighten up its ID

Churchill, Victoria, Australia(Zone 10a)

I will create an entry in BugFiles to start the family when we have a name, or if that seems impossible, I can create an entry for Tachytes sp. so that we can accept the image,

Ken
