My Garden Mid-June

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Things are not in full swing yet, but there is getting to be more color. I planted a lot of annual vinca this year which is just sitting there. We need a little more heat to get it growing. Here is a bright pink NOID Asiatic lily and Jackmanni clemetis.

This monarda is taking over too much of the front strip bed is and going to get pulled up when it's finished blooming.

The deep red lily here is Black Jack and the orange one is Loreto. They both have almost black markings on them.

That is an amazing clematis. Mine had 3 blooms and I was happy! But it is only in it's second year so I am hoping it will start to look fuller soon. Thanks for sharing your photos!

Beautiful and more to come. What is the purple flower in the left corner of the last post? Sooo pretty.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

The pink lily here is Ceres, a double Asiatic. Lolli pop lily is in the back ground. Daylilies and annuals need to get going yet.

Dreamland zinnias are the rose colored blooms in front. Behind them is Butterfly blue scabiosa. Way back near the street is the pink monarda and an early blooming daylily called Lynn's Delight.

The purple flower is Jackmanni clemetis. Cactuspatch, it's nomal for clemetis to take at least 3 years to really make a good showing. Thye most be over 10 years old. Here is a close up of the daylily Lynn's Delight. Not a fancy one, but it blooms very early and for a long time.

Black Jack is one of my favorite Asiatic.

Pretty bare looking from this angle. After looking at Illoquin's photo of the annual Iberis, I'm thinking about mixing them with the annual vinca next year for more early color. The bright purple blooms are a dahlia.

Just ran out and took a very back yard shots. Mostly lilies and daylilies in this bed.

You may be able to guess from these photos that I love lilies and daylilies. The flowers in the foreground are coneflowers. Sunset I think. The light colored lily is a NOID with pale apricot edges.

Obviously a lot of care and a lot of love went into this garden.

Have learned that at the end of every "green thumb" is a lot of "elbow grease".

I can't believe all the daylilies you have blooming! And they are so BIG! Everything is big -- that Clematis is amazing. So is the Monarda.

Fabulous!!!!!

Thanks everyone. Compared to some of the gardens on here, I feel like my garden looks very unprofessional, but I sure get a lot of enjoyment out of it. I have a number of early-early daylilies that really help add color this time of the year. It seems that most of them are the plainer looking ones, but I keep them around because any color at this time is appreciated.

I think I'm going to start looking for some of that 'Lynn's Delight'. Is it my monitor or are they just a touch lighter than the Stella D'Oros? I want something to mix with my tiger lilies.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

The Lynn's Delight are much lighter. More of a light yellow/apricot. The plant is also taller than Stella and the blooms larger. It;s not a rebloomer thought it does bloom for manybe 8 weeks in the Spring/early summer.

absolutely lovely...thanks for sharing your garden....; do you have a front picture of the
yard and your house? i want to see it all together from the front....also, how many monardia was that? i will have to get some of that ....lordy it gets big and beautiful!!!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

I'll have to get a photo from the front when all the daylilies are in bloom. Should be in about 2 weeks. The monarda started as a little stem in a 2" pot 3 years ago. It's scarey how fast it grows! I'd be happy to send anyone some ofit for postage, but beware, it is aggressive.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

You're kidding! I knew they grew fast, but not that fast! Are all Monarda like that? I have some Ws seedlings called "Panorama Red Shades'. Do you think they would grow as fast? (Part of me wants you to say yes, and part of me wants you to say no.) LOL!

ohhhhhhh Susan, there is so much love in your garden.. I LOVE it!! It is beautiful! Just lovely :) I know I'm a cottage gardener as when I see pictures, it makes my heart happy.

Do you live across from a park?? How wonderful is that!!

Where did you get those gorgeous arbors?? They are wonderful! Yours is the garden I longed to see while driving around yesterday and came up short of seeing yours.

Thanks Susan! I do live across from a park. It makes my small yard seem a little larger. My brother built the 2 arms for me. He did such a nice job.

Marietta, GA(Zone 7b)

Gosh, he did an excellent job :) And you did too of course!

Austell, GA(Zone 7a)

Susan, your gardens are just beautiful. Love the arbor - your brother did a nice job.

Guess it's getting to be late June now, but I'll add a few photos taken the last week or so.
Daylilies are about at their peak now.
