Sorry no pic.
These bugs are hot pink and have a bulbous rear end and tiny brown lacy wings. They were lined up in rows up and down my Black Eyed Susans. Unter the top leave (still in rows) and down the stem.
There were 3-4 vertical rows per plant. They were on the top from the top set of leaves down to the 3rd. They were sucking the plant and when the wind blew they would swing but not fall off.
Water blasted them off but they came right back. Any ideas?
CLOSED: Hot Pink Sucking Bug
If they were tiny, it sounds like aphids...some of them are red/pink
Do you have a way to post a picture?
No I didn' t have a camera with me at the time. They were on the flowers I have at my MIL's garden. This weekend I will be back there again.
I have seen the red aphids (and green, black, brown...) and these didn't look anything like them. They were much larger, brighter colored, shiny/smooth skinned, and shaped wrong. I will try to get a pic, but my MIL may have gone out and gotten some type of spray already to get rid of them. I wouldn't have a problem with that, but I really want to know what they are just because I like learning.
6/24/07 Just found red-Aphids on my Black eyed susans also... found a picture
Perhaps, "Goldenglow Aphid (Dactynotus rudbeckiae): Adults are bright red, around 1/6 inch long, and have long legs." [http://www.uga.edu/vegetable/aphids.html]
