June 10 Blooms

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Blackjack or Black Jack? Not as dark as it is sometimes.

Another shot of Loreto. It is planted next to Blackjack. They looked better together in the lily catalog than they do in person. I like them both a lot though and they do bloom at the same time.

Susan those are just beautiful! Great colors!

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

She's trying to bloom~!

I like your Blackjack, Susan - I got some bulbs a couple of years ago but they were tiny and no blooms last year.

Oh, she's getting close there, Steve. I just adore that lily, but mine are a long way off yet. I feel like I am getting an extra season of blooms, with your southerners around . Thanks.

Terrace City really popped overnight.

So did Madrid.

I have the Chinese trumpets ("Regale"), the pale yellow ones ("Orania" maybe?) and the towering Silk Roads. The sudden heat the past few days has really accelerated bloom.

I ordered some cool new lilies for next year.

I have Opening Night blooming now....the ones the deer left alone at least...I had to spray them to keep them eating them all!

This one surprised me this morning as well...not sure of the name, as I planted several "loners" by themselves and labeled the groups of two or more...

It has freckles!

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

Yes, I know...I just have no idea which one it is..lol I will have to look at other posts from the co-op, maybe I can figure it out..lol The deer ate so many of mine, I may not have another of these bloom..so we will see...

Hi -- this is Mrs. R.O. Backhouse, first of my lilies to open this year, and my first martagon ever. I'm enchanted. And addicted, I fear.

That is just beautiful...I don't have any that grown like that except for the orange tiger lily I have....are they in the same family?

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

Beautiful, beautiful lilies! I really like Terrace City, beak. I'm not familiar with that one.
Congrats on RO Backhouse , wickerparker. Aren't marts great once they decide to show up?

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

Thanks! That RO Backhouse was planted last fall. Two out of three came up with buds. And one out of three of my fall-planted straight species martagons has come up with buds. And now I want more and more. Am fantasizing about having them floating above the other plants everywhere they'll grow. Don't think I've ever had a more beautiful flower in my garden. Janet, I'm not the expert at all, but short answer is that it's a different species than your tiger lily. Right?

Columbia Heights, MN(Zone 4a)

That's correct. The RO Backhouse is a martagon and the tigers are lancifolium.

You're certainly luckly to have blooms right away on your martagon. This is year 5 on my Terrace City. The first one and lonely bloom was 2 summers ago and one stem. Last year the second stem appeared but again, just 2 or 3 blooms. This is the first year it's been so loaded, if you can call 8 blooms loaded.

Steve, I don't think your yellow is Orania. Orania is more of a melon blush on white.

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

It is kind of orangey in certain light, beaker - what else might it be?

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Ahhh, I can sit here all day and gazing at your lilies.....
My Stargazer shrugged off the heavy rain on Friday....

Here's another pic. It is not Conca d'Or.

Very nice Stargazer, Lily_love - I ordered some for this fall because the other half likes them.

Columbia Heights, MN(Zone 4a)

Without distinctive markings, it's hard to say. Do you recall having a Trumpet called Moonlight or Moon Temple? It looks similar to one of those.

Here's a photo of Orania from the Lily Nook. My Orania went bye-bye last year when it became part of the smorgasbord enjoyed by the local squirrels. Hope to get it this fall. It certainly is a beauty.

Steve, I think that's such a lovely pale yellow, whatever it is. Beaker, would you call Terrance City orange? Gold? I'm tempted to try some of the more exotic (and expensive) martagons that Lily Nook has, but maybe I should just stick to Mrs. B since she fits in so well here.

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

Thanks beaker. I am sure it is an Orienpet and I have not purchased either of the varieties of trumpet you mentioned. I will have to go through my old orders and see what I bought within the past two-three years! I have planted Orania before. It is something I brought from the old house when I sold last fall; I did not buy any Orienpets (and no trumpets at all) except some "American" series bulbs and it doesn't look like any of those.

I will say the sun here makes blooms fade more than they do up north, so stands to reason the color might not be as distinctive. Oh well I'll figure it out eventually.

I appreciate your help though.

Steve

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

Thanks wicker . Your martagon is very pretty. I have never tried those.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

I think the pink buds point to Orania or some other OT. So many of them can look the same anymore. I haven't noticed pinkish buds on the yellow trumpet strains. I grow Moonlight and it is a yellowish green color.

Columbia Heights, MN(Zone 4a)

My bad. I thought you meant the yellow. I still think it looks too yellow, but in your warmer weather, maybe the color fades out. It looks to have a slight pink reverse. I'll keep my eyes open for something similar.

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

It's Open!

Oh wow, Silk Road? How lovely!!!!

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

Lovely 'Silk Road'! Could that be 'Boogie Woogie'? Mine opened up today and looks similar (it is one of my cheater lilies planted early from the Feb. flower show) It's nice, no matter what it is..

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Steve, how about Georgette for the yellow one? It is an OT and about that color. I'll have to see if I can find a photo of mine from last year.

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Oh how wonderful all your lilies are. I need to add some Martagons to my hosta beds this year. :) Until then I'll just have to drool over all of yours!
