Share your 'pretty' begonia pictures

Oceanside, CA

Here is one of the ones I like the most... Evelyn Weidner Rex Begonia.
I would like to share more, but I don't know how to include more than one picture :(

Wow! That thing is gorgeous! How do you grow them so big?! Very, very nice!

Oceanside, CA

I think is just a matter of time. That plant (Rex Begonia Evelyn Weidner) was around 1 year old when the picture was taken. Of course you should pay attention to other factors (light, fertilizer and proper watering).

WOW is right, If I had one that looked like that I would like it the most too. LOL Nice garden!

Andiel, you are having trouble adding more photos?
Just add them to the bottom of your new posts. Go to BROWSE like you did in your first post and it will take you to your hardrive.

I would ove to see more pictures of your garden!

"Coral Sands" It is doing much better now that I've gotten it outside.

Oooo - zone envy here. I love these begonias and I have that one too (the one in the first post), but I grow them in the summer, just to struggle to keep them alive in through the winter.

Buffalo, WV(Zone 7a)

Beautiful Rex! Love seeing it growing outside. Can't remember the name of this one right off.

Wvdaisy, that seems Albuquerque Midnight Sky to me, but is hard to tell, the picture seems a little overexposed in some areas.

Buffalo, WV(Zone 7a)

That could be it. I'm thinking it was one of the city begonias. I still haven't checked :~)

BEAUTIFUL! I wish I could grow mine in beds. They freeze here in the winter and the suffer so much in doors. I lose alot of them in winter. Anyone have any tips for keeping them beautiful during the winter months?

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Butch or Lali might be able to tell you how to keep them
beautiful in the winter. That's not easy to do since it's sometimes difficult just to keep them alive in the winter. Pot them down a size
for winter, even removing some potting mix from the roots.
Less chance of overwatering them which is going to kill them
pretty much every time.

I do a little gardener type work. Here are some that we use in the ground.

This is a cane type that I have seen everywhere in the US, gets big even in a container

Last year about this time I saw a post that a local commercial grower was having a stock reduction sale. I liked the dark leaves of this rhizome type.

I have two cane types planted close together.

Another, I have forgotten the name.

I am always surprised at some of the responses I get when I foget the names of the plants I buy and place. People seem 'upset' that I don't remember the names of their favorite plants. I plant 2-3,000 plants a year, probably 200 different species, I have my limits. I have only planted two of these in the last year, not a plant I deal with much.

Here are some 'old' photos that I have posted in the past on other threads. I reuse them because I know there are many folks who have not seen them.

The plants in this photo got tossed into the recycle bin, what a heartbreaker. I wish they would have called me. I would have driven across town to save them, they were only 8 months old, so young :-)

Some kinds of begonia grow like weeds here in the heat and humidity. I should plant them more often.

This is from the Epcot Flower Show. Begonia are easy here, but, they are still a 'speciality' flower, not many growers.

I love the snail leaves of some of the Rex's, here is one that I own.

i cannot imagine what would happen to rex begonias if we tried to put them in the ground.....they won't even grow out on the front screened in front porch..............where the winds can easily whip around at 30-40 mph.......I am so jealous of those in the ground......................
I am also envious of the canes being able to be placed in the ground...........unheard of where I live....

Tampa, FL(Zone 10a)

And I envy you GG, living in TX. I miss the hill country. FL is hot humid and there are too darn many hurricanes! But, we do what we have to do.

We are lucky here in FL, begonia are not rare plants. Couple new ones of the Rex type.

I see now there must be many types of begonia rex! I really like the photo posted of the "evelyn weidner". I only know this as begonia rex...does anyone know the particular specie?

Wind,

No idea on the name for your rex begonia but it is stunning with all the contrasting colors. Have you checked Booman or Lyon's for an ID? It almost looks like one of the Constellation varieties but I think most of those have curls in them.

Here is 'Sinbad' in front of some pots. The new leaves are pink and mature to silver. Boliviensis is in the background.

Wind,

Looks like Rex Begonia HILO HOLIDAY from the Great American Cities Series from Booman Floral.
Here is a google search, look at the first three posts... looks very close. Don't you think?
