Very lovely garden Mrs. Crow!!!
Let's See Your Garden II
Thanks, Crow...but I really usually plant TOO many things, and have to trim every week! I'm just happy that EVERYTHING I planted last year (including many that were borderline no-no's for my zone) has done well, and all survived the Great Ice Storm we had in January.
The only thing I can't seem to grow that I've tried thus far is petunias...they just shrivel up and die. I'm at a loss...my mother used to grow those and she does NOT have a green thumb! :)

Don't feel bad, I can't grow 'em either. They do fine in the fall, winter and early spring (like we have a fall!). But as soon as the temp heats up, they fizzle. Combine that with the fact that they are snails favorite thing in the world, and I've given up on them.
Susannah, could that be Blue River Nile II hibiscus, a hardy? I just bought that on ebay because of its being solid white.
lulu, the white with the red stam is awesome. That one is on my "to get/to steal" list.
Yes, this white one's a hardy. I forget it's name, but will look tomorrow. I have it in my garden book, for sure. :-) The blooms are quite serene and, in the early morning, surreal.
You surely have improved it a lot Nada, keep up the good work.
Yes -- the white hibiscus is "Blue River II" (no Nile in the title, but that just might be that nursery's tag). Good call!
you're right. no Nile
ren,
In a couple of the pots in the container garden I see what appears to be false poinsettia.
They volunteer in my beds and I pull them up because they are so invasive. Is that just a look-alike or is there more to this plant and I should be saving it.
LouC
this is the first year I have seen them... and yes.. they seem to be all over the place. I just wanted to wait and see what happened.... didn't even know what it was until you mentioned it. It does look sorta like poinsettia.
maybe someone can tell us more about it. I have treated it like an invasive weed
I had a huge surprise this week. My immortality iris is blooming. It bloomed last spring for the first time since I planted it 2 or 3 years ago and now again. Is it supposed to do this?
I have a purple iris, just an old fashion type I thought, blooming this last week too. I wondered if I had the rhizome planted too far underground and all the rain and sun has helped it.
I agree that perhaps they needed all the rain this year to bloom. My irises are planted in an area where a natural spring erupts from the rocks, and they love it!!
I really expected my irises to have problems because of the rain. I thought they like things a little drier than this. I don't think I have lost anything yet, but my tomatoes sure aren't producing much. Not enough sun I guess. My brugmansia is blooming almost, I really need to transplant it to a bigger pot and I can't because the dirt is too wet. It's been on my list since May. I guess the buds would fall off if i did it now. I'm just afraid when the rain finally does stop, it won't rain again for another 5 years.lol
'Fluter ... bite your tongue!!!! :-)

It has drizzled through the sun's rays for about the last 3 hours here in my part of Austin...it's so gorgeous...almost makes me think I could grow the wonderful tropicals I saw at a friend's house in Houston this weekend.......................well, one can dream!
I'm in love with the Pagoda plant.....and DG files say zone 8 to 11....pooh....maybe I can overwinter some in my house???
drizzle? it's raining little elephants here!
Didn't get a drop so far today. But we did get a decent rain yesterday (when they said we wouldn't).
Loonie,LOL. That was a slight exaggeration I admit. Maybe we did too many rain dances last year when we hardly had a drop.:) I'm a native Texan and wouldn't ever want to live anywhere else again, but the weather is a huge challenge. We are always swinging on the end of a pendulum. One thing good about rainy seasons is no grasshoppers! I think I have seen 3 all summer.
I think we got about 2 inches yesterday, but none yet today.
Haven't had a drop of rain in Rowlett in almost 2 weeks. I had to water my lawn for the first time yesterday. So, I wouldn't mind a little bit of rain.
Carla
I wasn't born in Texas. But I got here as fast as I could.
still raining at my place. It hasn't dried out in over a week. A new (new this year not new to me) spring started flowing this morning.
Well, the sun's out today off and on. Of course, the trees and such are still dripping if you're under them. I've been trying to get a picture of a Zebra Longwing that has been flitting around occasionally for the last few days. But after I spot it, it won't stay around long enough to fetch my camera. I hadn't seen that kind of butterfly since 2004. Any coming your way, Nada? The Queens have finally arrived and I've seen a few caterpillars on the milkweed.
raining..............
Raining in Austin....and they are digging my new pool!! I guess pretty soon it will fill up for free! :)
It might even fill up before it's been dug!:)
Does anyone have seed from garden phlox or the giant zennias that they could share?
