A miraculous Miracle!!!!!!

Antrim, NH

Oh, this has been a trying week at Le Coop D'Etat. My husband and I were dealing with a death in the (human) family and going to the wake and speaking at the funeral etc, etc, when our little buddy Piccadilly disappeared without a trace on Monday.

You should have heard us calling and looking for her as a huge thunderstorm rolled in. Nothing. We looked all under the old coop and everywhere. Nothing. She hasn't been seen or heard from in 5 days. She is such a little thing that she actually could be carried off by a local hawk. ( Most of our gals are too big for that) so we really thought someone had gotten her.

Then this morning.......a miracle! She's home! She must be brooding on something, somewhere. She showed up in the enclosure, so she must be very well hidden somewhere in the pen. I guess she is under the old coop after all, but tucked up so well that we can't see her when she is setting. I have to tell you I was very emotional about it when I saw her, it is like she returned from the dead! I cried so hard! I'm teary just thinking about it :)

Here she is, that bad girl. She is, of course, totally unrepentant. :) Hurray! My wayward gal has come home.

Great news! You'll be hearing the pidder padder of lil chicken feet in a few weeks?? What kind is she? I LOVE black and white chickens.
Sorry for loss.

HURRAY INDEED!!!! What a BEAUTIFUL hen!

I am so happy Piccadilly decided to show herself! Sometimes I wonder just what God must be thinking when you are going through a stressful time & then He adds just one more thing to your worries. But, He has his reasons I'm sure. Maybe to make us grateful for what we have and not to take anything for granted!

Sorry about your family loss. Bless you for having the courage to speak at the funeral! I've had to do that in the past. Though it isn't easy; it can help the loved ones through a terrible time.

You do have a prety hen. She resembles a Silver Laced Wyandotte but looks a big fatter and feathered out to the point where she has the appearance of an Orpington mix or a cross with a Cochin but no feathers on her feet. Pretty as can be that is for sure.

Very nice hen !! Glad to hear you found her safe and sound and at home all along...lol.

Truly sorry about your loss!!! Keep in mind the many good times and it will help you get through and lessen the pain a little.

Did you determine that she was setting somewhere and was broody ?

I know my hens act funny when they're broody. They make an odd
clucky kind of noise when they get off the nest to feed and drink. They start making that noise about a day or two before they start setting.

Glad to hear that you found her. So sorry for your family loss.

Yes, she is/was broody, but doesn't seem to be setting anything fertile, unfortunately.

She is a bantam silver laced wyandotte. She looks kind of fat in that picture, but she is actually sleek and very small, only about 2 lbs.

She's so angry with me for breaking up her broody little nest. I tried setting her in my dog crate, but she was too mad. Oh well :)

I'm sorry to hear you had a family loss. Those things are always so rough on you mentally and physically.

I am thrilled to hear your bird showed up! I think animals like to toy with us as much as children do!
