CLOSED: Another Tachinid

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

The only ones that I can find that are similar...folks are hunting for the species too....

Any clues?

maybe a species of Archytas?

There are very few images available of that one. The thorax section on this one is brown but all else looks like yours. There is mention of a metallic blue abdomen, I can see that on yours.

I found an image of Archytas apicifer which could be it

One other image of A marmoratus which doesn't look the same.

There is a lot of them, but A. apicifer could be a more common species.

melody,
I agree that it is probably Archytas, but there seem to be at least 14 species in that genus and very few are illustrated on the net.
We could store it in BugFiles as Archytas sp.

Sounds like the prudent thing to do Ken.

Thanks for all of the info wallaby1...I'll dig a bit deeper through it later tonight. From what I could find, this is sort of a gray area with these insects.

This one is very common here in west KY. I've just started seeing them, but will see them often till frost. It is an insect that I see nearly every day if that helps.

How do I do the Archytas sp. ......put the sp. in the species window?

Churchill, Victoria, Australia(Zone 10a)

Yes, set the species as: sp.

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

I'm marking this one solved....everything that has a species listed does not quite match. I'm putting it in BugFiles as Archytas sp.
