Can you name my Begonia too?

Mid, ID(Zone 3b)

This past winter I was at a friends house and she had the most amazing huge begonia hanging in her home and since I was getting into plants big time I asked her for a cutting. She did not know the name of the plant. It had rhizomes hanging all over it off the sides of the basket and she broke a small piece of one off along with two leaves. I planted it and the two leaves and got lots of babies from everything. I thought it was a beef steak after a little research but when my leaves mature they get very wavy / curly. I'll post some pictures as I would love to have the name of it. Thanks, Brenda

Here is a picture of a new leaf coming up, not curly yet. Notice the back sides of the other leaves, they are burgundy. The whole plant looks burgundy in color in low light.

Ok, last picture. this is probably the most mature leaf on the plant. This is one leaf, nothing over lapping. Notice how it really curls in on it's self and gets even more wavy the more mature they get. So what have I got here, please??

What a beautiful leaf. Could it be...

BEGONIA ERYTHROPHYLLA HELIX BEG HP CGH $ 8.50 "Whirlpool Begonia" "Ramshorn Beefsteak Begonia" Both ends of the leaf spiral inward to suggest mirrored corkscrews and highlight the red underside; unusual yet vigorous specimen. Heirloom favorite.

I had admired it at Glass House Works where this description is from.

Nice plant, I like that one too, is that an African Violet I see peeking out from under the begonia?

Thank you J! That really does look like it and the description is about perfect. My mature leaves are much curlier around the edges than the picture they show but mine could just be older, more mature leaves as the center swirl part is the same. Whirlpool Begonia sounds good!

Susan, good eye, that is a semi mini trailing violet called Beacon Trail peeking out from under the Begonia!

Well over two months ago I had put a leaf of this begonia into a plastic tomato container. I didn't really know what I was doing but had read about laying them flat and slicing the veins and then weighing them down on top of the dirt. I tried that but this leaf was so wavy and curly it just wasn't making enough contact with the dirt and I ended up cutting most of the leaf into chunks with a vein in them and then sticking them in the dirt kind of like an AV leaf. I have been waiting and waiting and had just about decided I had failed when I looked into the box last night and saw these babies. I was so jazzed! Can't wait for them to grow bigger. There are some more pieces in there too so we shall see what happens with them now.
