CLOSED: Pretty little bee or fly what is it?

Tulsa, OK

This is the first year I've seen these little guys, and now they're all over. Some are more yellow, some are more orange, and some are even green-ish. It doesn't show up well in the photo, but they're incredibly metallic/ iridescent. They're also pretty small. They hang out on my passionflower, cannas, hydrangeas, and wood sorrel, and they don't seem to bother anything.

My best guess is that they're a sweat bee of some sort, but they could also be flies. Anyone recognize my new little friends?

This one is one of the Long-legged Flies of the family Dolichopodidae. It looks like a psecies of Condylostylus and is very like this one: http://bugguide.net/node/view/6041/bgpage
but even BugGuide does not identify it down to the species.

I have created an entry for Condylostylus sp. here: http://davesgarden.com/bf/go/4686/
and would be pleased to have your image added to it,

These things are everywhere these days! They eat mites, thrips, aphids, and other insects.

Thank you Kennedy! I did see the other long-legged fly entry before, but I was confused because my guys don't have especially long legs. I've added this pic to the data base, and I appreciate your creating that new entry.

I'm so glad to hear that they're one of the good guys. I had a feeling they were.
