As I have noted earlier, I made a trade of my brugmansia for some cuttings of plumeria. The two cuttings that was sent to me as Slaugther Pink had inflos on them. I know that keeping the inflos on the cuttings probably is/has taken away from them making as good as root system as the could. But at least I am able to enjoy some blossoms this year. :)
A question though, when are plumeria blooms the most fragrant, morning or eveninng? I did not discover the bloom until the middle of the afternoon. It did have some fragrance but not a lot and it seemed that this evening that it did not have any fragrance.
And just one more question. Are hummingbirds attracted to plumeria?
Here is the picture of the bloom. Woo Hoo!!!
My First Ever Plumeria Bloom!!!
Congratulations on your first flower! I would not have cut the inflo either.
As far as I know Slaughter Pink is not known for its fragrance as much as its color. Clare would know more, and could tell you which variety has the best scent.

Congrats, David. It is a beautiful bloom. I have that one blooming now too. It isn't 'Slaughter Pink,' which has much narrower petals. This one goes by a bunch of different names: 'Cancun Pink,' 'Mexican Pink,' 'Playful,' and 'Peggy's Pink,' and 'Peggy Higdon' to name a few. I just call mine 'Mexican Pink.' It has a soft floral fragrance which reminds me of baby powder. It's not a strong fragrance to begin with. I think heat and humidity bring out fragrance so it stands to reason that plumerias are more fragrant during the day than at night, but I don't know about which times of the day are more fragrant than others. I don't think hummingbirds are attracted to plumeria flowers as the ones in my yard go for the red salvia instead.
Edited to add: I forgot to add that the flower fades fairly quickly on this one, and it has poor keeping quality because of the thin petals, and it is a tall grower.
