Just a pot of it but I love the shape and color...

Scutellaria javanica Veranda
I just do tip cuttings, and put them in a little "greenhouse" (plastic lid). Tried a couple this year without the greenhouse effect, but they didn't do much. The Blue Tonic put out an offset that rooted in the ground, but so far I haven't been successful at MAKING it root that way.
Does your plant appear to be filling out via roots? I have noticed a few of the skullcaps putting out plantlets thru the drainage holes in the pots. That is why I figured division might be the reproductive way to go...
Well, it did the one, which I chopped off. It has several others lying on the ground, looking like they just really, really want to root. :) I pinned them down, but so far they haven't.
This is just a little plant, and it's just now taking off. I only ever find these in mid-summer. Hope I can save some of this one and get it in the ground earlier.
I hope you are able to keep it going too. Where did you find that plant? I am just so amazed at how many Texans grow the skullcaps... and what a wide variety of them we grow.
You know, pod, I'm not positive, but I think it came from Wally World! I know last year's came from there. I think I went back this year specifically to look for another.
I'm amazed at the variety of skullcaps. I had no idea there were that many.
I have read there are over 300 named varieties of skullcap. My experience, some do better for me than others. The trailing types have not died but not really taken off. I put two trailing kinds in pots, two more trailers in raised beds. They all have just limped along. I started them from seed this year so perhaps they will do better in the 2nd year. I do like the upright and larger varieties of skullcaps. Gardeners that like showy blooms will be disappointed but again, my experience is they bloom nonstop once they begin.
Pbtxlady ~ Lucky you ~ our WM never has any plants out of the ordinary. I always do a walk thru but leave emptyhanded unless I pluck something from sudden death on the marked down shelf.
Oh, ours doesn't have a lot of unusual stuff. I couldn't believe it when I saw that they had the blue skullcap. Only other place I've ever seen it was on eBay.
I usually go there to get my potting soil (cheaper than Lowe's). And tomatoes. The last two years they're the only ones who have carried jabanero peppers. Oh, and then every year, when the rush is over, they have their famous $5 hanging baskets.
Okay... so I can find something to buy at ANY garden center. LOL!
