Summer, I ordered that tulip 'Exotic Emperor" from B&B this April for my Clarence bed for next year, but I think it will bloom before 'Deirdre'.and be gone by mid May for me. But I like the description. Another one that both Van E and B&B have that was very late and lovely was an all white fringed one, called 'Swan Wings' I had another white and green one called 'Madonna' (B&B) a parrot and, though it had great color, it seemed to be out of proportion with the bloom being too big (rock star thing?) and slightly awkward. I had a late one that you might love for its color, 'Zurel' (B&B). It is less pink and more lavender than the picture suggests and it has a nice form and late. I planted 'China Green' in a poor spot, duh, under an apple tree that had leafed out before it opened so the poor things were in deep shade and weak, but nice color. I grew some of those Ivory Queen Allium karataviense and will add more for next year. My 'Hair' are just starting to open. Which is the exciting part to watch. I planted some in full sun and some in part so I could extend the show. Patti

I also stumbled upon this site for a lovely spring display in ARK. http://www.cherylsgardenparty.com/Garden%20of%20the%20Month'04/GardMo04GarvanTulips.htm

Thank you both, summerkid and Patti! These are very generous recommendations. I fully suspect that one or several of these will show up next year. One type of tulip that we'll be featuring this year are the fringed ones. I'm trying to get some new varieties from Holland that we don't have here much so that'll be fun.

It seems like you hit all the swell places when you come up, Patti. You might consider a carriage ride near Columbus Day weekend, though.

I might have known that Patti would have every tulip I do plus a bunch I've never heard of.

thanks for the details, watersedge! Makes me feel better, too, to know there is a full-on support team creating it!

bb. Wow. That ARK Garden Party site has lots of great garden photos on it! Love your collages, too!

Just received my Van Engelen catalogs. My list is growing!
