CLOSED: Black/Red "armoured" Grasshopper

Beaumont, TX(Zone 8b)

Today my sister, Connie and I visited the Botanical Gardens here in Beaumont. While walking along the Asian Garden I spotted this handsome grasshopper sitting on a waybigo rock. I've never seen one colored this way. I only took one photo.

I checked Bugfiles and also Bugguide to figure out what this grasshopper's name is and couldn't find him anywhere.

This is what the area he was in looked like. Maybe someone will recognize his "host" plant.
