The blooms are on my roses that also have thrips. I hope they are good bugs and are here to eat thrips. They remind me of lightening bugs without lights. Can anyone help ID these for me ?
CLOSED: I have at least one of these bugs in almost every bloom?
It looks like the Margined Leathewing Beetle (Chauliognathus marginatus): http://davesgarden.com/bf/showimage/1328/
http://bugguide.net/node/view/2668
According to BugGuide:
Quoting:
Adult feeds on pollen and nectar. Found on early summer flowers such as New Jersey tea (Ceanothus americanus) and wild Hydrangea. Adult also predatory, possibly taking eggs? Larva is predatory, known to attack corn earworm and corn borer.
seem to be good bugs
Kennedy
Thank you Kennedy for your fast response and ID. These beetles are all over my garden. I am happy they are good ones. Now I am going to try and drown those thrips with water. The beetles will fly so it will not harm them.
