This morning I discovered a mat of hundreds of tiny cream-colored eggs right on top of my garden mulch (decomposing leaves). What could have laid them? I have never seen a toad in my garden, and they weren't laid on a living leaf surface, but right on the wet dead leaf mulch.
We scooped them into a jar and took this picture. Any ID help is greatly appreciated!!!
CLOSED: Mat of tiny cream eggs on garden mulch; what are they?!
How big are they? Offhand, I'd say slugs' eggs but they're usually more translucent than this picture.
They're really small--about the size of a grain of amaranth. 1/10th of a centimeter, maybe.
I would also say slug eggs.
Thanks!! If they're slug eggs, I'm glad I scooped them up before they could feast on my new perennials!
