CLOSED: Found this pretty moth

He really looked nice by the light. I looked at some google images of tiger moths. There are a lot of different ones there, in the images, but I didn't see the exact pattern. So maybe not that one.

Neat! It's one of the Underwing moths, I'll see if I can find it.

There are a few moths with similar patterns in the genus, maybe this one, Catocala ilia? The larva feed on Oaks.

Thank you! That's my guy. My neighbor has a lot of oak trees. He was hanging around our outdoor floodlight. I thought he might kill himself because it was so hot. So I turned it off and caught him in a jar. I left him out and he went to the regular light by the door. Of course that was not safe either as our cats like to sneak out and play with the moths and kill or injure them.
So we put him back in the jar and carried him out into the cul-de-sac and left him get attracted to some other light. LOL
I used to handle things like that when I was a kid, but since he looked so omonous, I was afraid he might have a bite or pinch.
Anyway, I may post him in the bugfiles.
Thanks again.
