Again, Out of the Fuji no Kongo pack

Mesilla Park, NM

This is the third bloom off this plant, don't know if it is from the same vine, will try to untangle the two in the pot. I can't believe my luck..

This is the bud from last night that I thougt was weird.. with the stigma sticking out like a bell. No wonder it was out there, the tube probably pushed it out. Hopefully the pollen will be good.

sideview, it is a short little thing too.

I'll try to get a better closeup than this before it closes, kinda blurry..

That one is cool. It looks like it has a outie belly button. I think it`s cute and I like it.

I think this is the Reversed tube.. I have seeds for the white reversed tube but I just got those and the seedlings are tiny, never in my wildest thoughts, would have thought one would appear from these seeds, I wish I had taken better care of the other seeds in CA or tried harder..

NICE!!!

A, I really like this one.

Antoinette, you have a really nice example of a cup or reversed tube flower, where the flower tube turns back on itself! ....and in such a nice color! This cupping results in a shorter tube, exposing the normal length pistil and stamens. Your clear picture series shows this very clearly!

Your plant may be especially unique in that the cup flowers are usually on plants with the crepe type leaves -texture like crepe paper -. There is a variation that has normal looking leaves and the cup flower, which it looks like you have...(If the leaves showing are from the vine producing the plant!) You should be able to confirm this when you untangle your vines!

That has been a good pack of seeds! - Arlan

Such an unusual and beautiful flower, Antoinette, it is good you got such great photos to enjoy since the flower is so ephemeral. Is the vine a robust growing plant?

Joseph

Mesilla Park, NM

Hi Joseph, well it was robust until I started to untangle them..lol.. It is bigger than the one with the star in size and also this one has the variegated leaves.

Arlan, thanks, I almost had a nervous breakdown trying to untangle these without breaking the vines.. (well not quite).. The plants are totally different. The other (star) has solid green leaves and very small leaves at that.

Here is a photo of the crepe leaves on the reverse-tube (white), this is very exciting for me.

Antoinette, I'm growing a reverse tube white this year also.

Here is a picture of the leaf: http://davesgarden.com/journal/j/si/125542/

..and here is a picture of one of my plants, when it was just a bit older than yours: http://davesgarden.com/journal/j/si/124731/

I don't have a recent picture, but it is looking more and more like a dwarf creeper....should be interesting.

Oh Arlan,
I'm really liking the way that looks.

Here is one of the bat-leaf.. took this today

All these seeds were for Mother's Day.. (they know what I want) lol.

These are showing the white on the very first leaf.. it really surprised me..

Crystal Willow

I've got a couple of others that I need to take photos of, but .... maybe tomorrow.

Antoinette,

We have many of the same plants this year! I've got the bat leaf in the yard already and it is starting to take off! I'm looking forward to its trumpet shaped flower.

You are going to love the crystal willow! I planted all of my seed, and have some very lovely plants. The willow leaved plant you show here: http://davesgarden.com/forums/p.php?pid=3551164 , should have ethe dianthus split flower. I have one plant like this and it is gorgeous...even though it has not bloomed yet. It is small and compact growing. All of mine can be seen here in my journal: http://davesgarden.com/journal/j/vbc/atenkley/46148/

I've got tons of pictures here and they include the double flowered plant that I shared in the general thread.... you are going to love all of these! As the willow leaved plant has not flowered yet (the only one in a pot!), my pictures of it are not up to date....I'll update that when I return home...

here is a picture of the double flowered plant taken yesterday....

The reverse tube is not always associated with abnormalities of leaf tissue...

Anybody want to venture a guess at the identity of the flower posted here...(??!!)...

Merremia spp., Ron?

Robertsdale, AL(Zone 8b)

Ron, I agree, there is a recessive allele (cpr) of crepe (cp) which has the reverse tube and normal leaves.

I have seen other pictures of I.nil which have the reverse tube applied to the white/pink tube flowers resulting in a bloom like this one. http://davesgarden.com/forums/p.php?pid=3551490

I have gathered a couple varieties with this color pattern, with the idea of producing a variation of this reverse tube flower. Karen has one pictured here. http://davesgarden.com/forums/p.php?pid=3527701....Karen, here is your next project!

That one is a good candidate. It is Kaori I think. It has very good substance to the petals. I have been bagging those lately. If you Arlan or Gourd want to trade some I will be willing. I hope the pods take. It looks like one is taking already.

Oh, I hope they make seeds, guess I'll have to wait a couple of days to find out. I've never tagged so many things in my life.. this is going to be very interesting.

Robertsdale, AL(Zone 8b)

Thanks for the generous offer, Karen. I have Kaori, Tanchou, and Oreheme all growing in my garden now...! I have just seen my Kaori's bloom, http://davesgarden.com/journal/j/si/129888/ and it is true...my Oreheme is not true... and am waiting for the Tanchou to bloom. All are supposed to have white flowers with the pink center/tube.

I was going to be loaded for bear! I'd like to cross them with a good confirmation type reverse tube plant. None of my reverse tube plants so far have shown the great structure (prominent protruding button) yet...all of mine do not protrude very far. It is a variable trait though...not always evidencing itself.

Gerris2-Joseph - You guessed it...

Here it is in the PlantFiles
http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/86978/

I don't think htop realizes what she had posted there...haven't heard back from her after last few inquiries...

I thought it interesting to see the dai type of tube on Merremia dissecta...then I've heard that there was a natural double form of Ipomoea pandurata...fertile too(!)...

TTY,...

Ron

I hope the Merremia I am growing will make the tube, or even get to flowering stage. It seems to be a vigorous critter so far so let's see what happens.

Robertsdale, AL(Zone 8b)

Ron, I guess the "twisted" anthers on your pictured flower should have been one clue! I've been looking for the picture of the nil that I saw...can't recall where it was..

Mesilla Park, NM

This is the flower from yesterday.. the other one is drying the same way. Do the stamen and anthers need to be inside it to get pollenated..?? It would seem that it should get pollinated anyway, even if they are outside.

A.

Thumbnail by Gourd
Netcong, NJ(Zone 5b)

Gourd-Antoinette - the pistil and the anthers can stay sticking outside of the flower and remain functional, but you may need to hand pollinate to assist pollen transferral...

TTY,...

Ron

Ron,
Thanks, that's good to know. Since I've been getting these kinds of flowers.
