It just never ends does it?
Found these great standing candle-holders and thought they would look good in the Lizard Lounge! hehe
Yes Abl - love those pots. I've seen the styrofoam ones, but these are fiberglass. The colors are great aren't they?
Container Renovations! (smile)
i said styrofoam, but yes they are fiberglass...
i love the reddish plant...if you ever get an ID on that, please let me know!
your silver sedum looked like "burro's tail" to me...
and i love the string of bananas...i don't believe i've ever seen that one...
did you buy both those succulents already grown? or did you raise them from babies?
I've been eying those Styrofoam-fiberglass planters for a while - I love the blues, but for up here, they're almost too blue. (We don't do colors like that very well, except in wrapping paper.) It's very helpful to see them actually potted up. Of course, those plants would last about three weeks up here too... Fiberglass makes more sense for the price though, although I did buy some pots that are literally stryrofoam, which have restrained, sedate dark green paint.

Carrie...I did find some of those styrofoam colored pots at BigLots the other day. Hey...for the price, they're pretty good. A large one was $8. Right now I've got a small fortune invested in pots and these do really nicely when the plant covers it anyways!
The red one is styrofoam and the green is fiberglass ($16.- pretty good!)
Beautiful job on the pool planter Kat. Really added some nice dimension. The candleabra is beautiful.
I had to go back and look at that last photo again because I thought that the palm trees were INSIDE! HAHAHAHA Great nighttime view you have there Kat!
Janet
KatG -- Is your indoor pool a normal chlorine pool or saltwater? We're planning to build an indoor area similiar to yours with a pool, but we haven't decided on saltwater or not. I am concerned with the house smelling like chlorine.
You have done a beautiful job with your plants! I would live out there!
Megin
That green one was $16??? Here it would be at least ten bucks more than that.:-(

Janet...Gotta do some Rustoleum or spray acrylic-something, on that one as it's raining like crazy here in the past few days and I'm sure they're going to rust. They really do look kind of good though. I just love putting things outside that really belong inside.
I was on this Florida gardening thread on DG and this clever man had posted a slide-show of his garden. Not only do I want his garden...I was inspired to go and do my own little relaxing slideshow!

Kat
MzzPool...I do live out there! hehe
I use Chlorine in my pool, but it's enclosed by screen so there is no odor. Looks like glass, but it's not. I'm not sure I would go the Saltwater route as that's a lot of maintenance. If your pool is well maintained, there's not a huge need for extra chlorine. There are alternatives though. Check out a Reverse-Osmosis system. No chemicals.
Kat
WOW Kat! I loved your slide show. It was like walking around your house. If you'd been a fly on the wall, you'd have heard me oohing and aahing! HAHAHAHA
I'd like to do something like that so I don't have to copy my photos on a CD to send to my Mom. Is there a fee for using that sit?
Thanks for sharing your beautiful gardens with us all here.

Janet...it's just the greatest site! Currently there's a 30 day free trial, but I think the cost for the year is about $50.00. That is apparently because there is no advertising. I've looked around at some others, but this one seems to be the best. So easy to use and I think it's unlimited as far as how many albums you want to create.
It was SO HOT today, but I sure got a lot done in the garden...replaced a lot of heat depleted plants and moved things around a lot! Even had to move the Bakers Rack as it was really bugging me where it was. Moved it into the Lizard Lounge with the containers and I'm so much happier with it! I never move furniture around inside my house, but out in the garden...anything goes! hehe
Kat
What is the plant with the pink blooms to the right of your baker's rack? I am so enjoying all your pictures. Haven't spent much time posting but sure have been reading and following threads and do so enjoy the neat ideas that you come up with.
Patty
Kat...I love looking at your wonderful world. You have great taste and a great sense of humor. What is the pig thingy that some of the plants are setting on and where can I find one? Thank you...Rose.
I loved your slide show. It looked like a great garden magazine -- without the ads!
Patty...it's called Curcuma. I've never really seen them around here until this year and they're in every garden center. They're also called Siam tulips or pink ginger. You could smell the ginger when you're repotting them. If I ever need a clove I might have to dig one up! haha
Here's some smaller ones that I planted with Foxtail ferns and Gaura...They're multiplying like crazy and seem to last a long time.
Dellrose...Found the pig at Sams Club of all places. Wanted to buy one for a friend who loved it and unfortunately they didn't have it any more. Seen one in a catalog the other day that was similar, but almost 2X the cost? http://www.shop.com/Laughing_Pig_Bench-28625426-p!.shtml. This one is smaller, but I suppose the difference is that it's made of metal instead of resin like mine.
Pig ended up in the pool the other day during a heavy thunderstorm, along with a trellis and a planter dumped all over on my deck..Don't like swine swimming in my pool! haha
Thanks Revclaus...that site is absolutely incredible. Just upload your photo's and it does the rest.
Outstanding Kat! Looks wonderful! Wish I was there now! :-)
Janet
KatG -- I LOVE that purple plant. What's it called? I searched for Persian but didn't find anything like that.
Thanks,
Megin
It's Persian Shield. Here is the link to the Plant Files

Those pictures are absolutely gorgeous! Just breath taking....no kidding I was ooohing and aaaaahing also! I love the way you do the companion planting!
Ingenius! I have to learn to do that! It is so wonderfull! Thanks for sharing!!!!!
Thanks Texgal!
You know what? I really don't know what I'm doing! hahaha. This container gardening thing to me is really fairly new, but has been the most rewarding. With the heat here in Fla. that I'm sure you understand in TX, it's hard to keep colorful, pretty plants around in the summer. Containers make it possible. All they need is a little TLC...and lot's of water.
I just keep mixing them all up and sometimes you come up with such a great combination after everything has grown up! If not...they're easy to change.
Just plant pretty plants YOU really like...
Pic: This is still one of my faves - Devils backbone with Curcuma...
