The term "Gray Lady" was first used to describe an Ipomoea nil cultivar that was selected out over 20 years ago by a veteran morning glory growing lady in Illinois and was offered for open trade in the earliest editions of the printed trade publication known as the "Flower and Herb Exchange"
I have added for reference this important footnote to accurately document the history relative to this cultivar, as there have been some 'incorrect' claims to a more recent origin for the cultivar'Gray Lady"

Edited to add sense to this post -

That's a real heart-tweaker - reminds me of the "grays" Emma has grown out from crosses descending from her Henka MG.

Lovely, soft color.

I have to grays ones called Gray Mist and the other gray fog

Mesilla Park, NM

Gray Lady has been around for years, check out the plant files for the history of this one. THis is old seed from 2002 from Brugie..........Shirley Morr.. This is one I grow every year.

I do have some of Emmas growing but I think I have Plum FRost, none of her grays... President Bush, Lady Laura, ALcapulco BLue, WIsteria Tie Dye and Lavender Mist. that is aobut it for Emmas at this end.. I sure do love her smoked grays though.

editted to add: I have one gray morning mist that I started on 4-15-07, that I can add to Emma's grays.................

I have the following from Emma that I suspect may be from her Henka -
Gray Morning Mist
Plum-Gray Smoke
Gray Fog
Velvet Plum

Three seeds of each are now either in the cotyledon stage or sprouting in a baggie over the kitchen sink - hopefully I'll have pics to add to a Henka thread for her in August, and other gardeners may have some, too. If anyone finds the pic she posted of that original Henka, we could start that thread - this should be quite a "grow-out"

PS - I just remembered Beckygardener's Pink Porcelain has a Henka parent, but may not be from Emma's Henka - wouldn't want to leave those out

It will be interesting to see the crosses with the grays.. I feel like starting a couple more that the hail took..

Here is Gray Lady today, she stayed open until 3:30 pm in 90 degree heat, (it was in the shade).. but it was nice to see it open most of the day.

I should have gotten a little closer on this shot, Gray Lady with I. quamoclit (Australia) out next to the rockwall.. trying to find a place that the wind doesn't hit.

They all look so well behaved right now - are you going to let the quamoclit loose on the wall? I can just imagine a hummer backlit in that window in the wall sipping from quamoclit flowers.

We've been having this rockwall made the past month and when the gates go in (lights) etc.. I think I want to keep that light post there, the new lights will go on the pillars.. I want that pole there for vines, but DH wants the pole gone..lol. Lots of construction here that is why I am growing inside all the time.. The round part is where the courtyard starts and the windows start. This wall goes all around the area we want enclosed.

edited to say: did I say month... more like months..

A, I would love to have a rock wall but I
don't see it happening any time soon.
Love yours.
