Luna Moths

Live and learn. You all are going to love this.

Emerald opened a Resturant here a few months ago and I have been dying to try it so Tim agreed to take me for my Birthday. We expected it to be a little more expense than what is the norm around here.

We ordered Ribeye steaks. I could have sworn they were 34.00 each!!! All places here get salad and veggies with the meal. Not Emeralds. Didn't pay attention to side order pricing which was a bad move on my part. I was told about a Smoke Roasted Tomatoe soup in cooked in Seafood stock. I asked did it have crawfish in it since I am highly allergic to them. Waitress said I will find out. I said if it doesn't I want it. I also ordered fresh Collard Greens. Tim ordered a Spinach Salad to go with his.

About 20 minutes I finally got the waitresses attention who was across the room chatting with the fellow co-workers and asked about my soup since Tim had finished his salad. She said did you want that???? grrrrr. They brought my soup at the same time the steaks came. Wow the thing was beautiful about 1" thick. It came with garlic potatoes my favorite and onions crisp. I ordered my steak well done, no pink I told her.

I tasted the soup and it was horrible. All I tatsed was smoke like someone had poured a bottle of liquid smoke in it. Next the collards. Boy was I in for a shock. First it was sweet yuk then my throat was on fire another grrrr. Southerns do not cook their greens that way. Some like a little hot sauce or vinegar but never sweet. If had had a paper napkin I would have spit it out!!! I ate the onions crisp and garlic potatoes that were to die for and had eaten a couple bites from one edge of my steak. I was getting full and Tim was finished so I said I better eat the best part of my steak since there will be no way I can even eat half of it. I cut into the middle and out comes blood. I cut and cut trying to find some well done. Tim was giving me that look telling me not to make a fuss!!! Anyway my steak is all cut up when I got the waitresses attention again and showed her and said I ask for no pink and especially not blood. So she asked if I would like for her to take it back and have it recooked. I would like to know they planned on putting my steak back on the grill when it was all cut up??? I had to put my glass on the outer edge of the table to get a soft drink refill.

YIKES! What a rip-off Donna. I would write a letter of complaint to the manager. I've been there and done that ... though not quite at the price you paid. But pretty close. I will stick to the restaurants in town that I know have good and reasonable priced meals! Ha!

Sorry you birthday dinner was a disappointment! {{{hugs}}} At least the company was good, right? LOL!

Added to say .... by "company", I meant your dh not the restaurant chain! LOL!

Oh Donna, how awful...that's an expensive meal that you didn't even eat! Been there, done that too :(

You have to wonder if that's why they add on the mandatory tip to the tab......because their patrons won't!

There is no way I could have enjoyed eating food in that price bracket. I don't care how great the food is, I would have problems swallowing it.

Really sorry about that horrible experience. I would have only given the waitress 10%. Sheesh, the bill was high enough already and then lousy service with her off chatting with co-workers??? I'm sure the owner thanks you for contributing to his children's and grandchildren's college fund. Ridiculous.

Dear Donna,

I'm so sorry avbout your birthday meal. Would you like some Luna eggs? ...To raise, not to eat;-) There is a guy in New York who just did 2 Luna pairings. He's looking for vacation accomodations for them- somewhere with green leaves as his are brown and crispy mostly. The "cost" is that you return some cocoons to him once they spin up so he can share them with schoolkids. He sent me some Actias selene who are now happily vacationing in the Luna moth mecca of Jacksonville, FL sipping swwetgum MaiTais.

This offer is open to anyone who has the leaves, space, energy to raise them.

Not up to it right now Maggie but thanks for the offer. I have overwintering Luna and Regal moth cocoons now. Also have Io Moths still happily munching on Azalea leaves in their cage. Have lots of Tesra Sphinx out in the Pentas but leaving them to fend for them selves

Bummer on that pricey dinner...I do like some of Emeril's recipes though...well from the show and others I have looked up.

I go out for steak a couple of times a week...but even if I had a million dollars to blow I wouldn't spend it on overpriced food. No way would I pay $86 for two ribeyes...heck, you can just about buy the whole cow for that!!!! And $10 for a spinach salad? My word!!! Some needs to tell Emeril that's ruffage - and it should be sold in bulk!

Sometimes you end up paying for the name of the place instead of the good food and good service. I'll stick to my favorite burger joints and steak places :o)

The restaurants out here are reasonable...some are pricey but I assume that is to keep out the riff raff (I still manage to get in...ROLF!!!)

Okay...next time...hit up the liquor...it's cheaper and you'll enjoy yourself more...or at least forget...if you don't (snicker snicker)

By the way...my favorite Emeril treat is onion rings. I saw it on a show - you cut the onion in half and slice it into very, very, very thin slices. Toss them into a bowl and add a bottle of tabasco sauce and let them marinate overnight. Drain and dredge in seasoned flour (pepper, paprika, seasonall etc) and deep fry for merely seconds. Oooooooooh...I can eat the whole onion when it's cooked up like that :o) OINK!!!
