its the most wonderful time of the year !

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

great... I will sow the seeds after work today... I have 3 empty beds... can you believe it!!???? all that nice soil and nothing there....

I planted 30 nastustions ...and they are 2 inches tall... really cute... I am transplanting them next to the roses and containers also....

Do you think is too late for me to move Geoff Hamilton to a new location??? I don't think is getting as much sun as I expected.... is in a very odd place... only 2 hrs of sun!!! it's growing but I am afraid I am not giving a good chance!!!

Graham Thomas has not put out any new growth... it's all green and looks ok, but would that be because is a onw root instead of bare root????

Same thing with the own roots rugosas... I finally see how bare roots grow way faster than own roots... so far I am happy with both!!!

Laura, the clivia can go on full sun for the morning only and bright shade for the afternoon??? today she is outside in the rain...

the brugs are under the pine tree... the leaves still huge... some has lost all leaves and has new ones growing... but the other still has the huge leaves...

I have 3 sunflowers open... I guess they are early!!!!! I am totally starting some more... just love it!!!!

zuccinis, cucumbers and okra are all sprouted and waiting another week or so to be planted... I still need get a supports for the sweet peas... tomatoes doing ok so far...

Wayland, MA(Zone 6a)

Kass
don't put the clivia in the sun till it gets aclimated and then move it to shade w/ a little sun then mor eand mor . the leaves will scorch It won't really hurt the plant but it will look better if you go slow

Kassia,
I will be there on Sunday, but won't have time to come over. I would love to see your garden another time!

I have been so busy with work- last week 6 days and one night- so now I have to run errands, do laundry and clean... trying to be a little sociable if i can stay awake long enough... I did manage to take a few garden pics. Someday soon I will post more.

This is the new garden bed outside the kitchen window. i love it because I can enjoy it even if i can't get outside.

The other end of the bed. Of course it's a work in progress... very weedy, too. (Too busy weeding other people's gardens!)

Cindy thanks for posting those picture I never get to see your garden in the spring! it is beautiful I love the ferns I am hoping that my area where the ferns are will fill in like that too. What is the name of that iris? I have it but I can't remember the name . Your irises are a little ahead of mine they are just about to pop . Celias are blooming now . They bed out side of your window is beautiful too. I am so happy I can look out on my garden now when i can't go out . I placed a humming bird feeder right out side of my kitchen window and I have seen humming birds every day several times a day . when it was in the side garden I only saw them once in a while . the only draw back is that it is in afternoon sun so you have to change the food more often because it starts to go bad

Very nice Cindy. Hope things slow down a bit for you. Had a few things happen in my family the last few days that once again remind me how fragile and fleeting life can be. Remind yourself to appreciate all the things worth appreciating.

Cape Cod, MA(Zone 7a)

Thanks Victor,
I hope everything is okay. It's good to be reminded to take time to enjoy things. Sometimes I feel like an old, broken down robot! I don't like living that way.

Laura, that iris is Edith Wolford. It's the first time it's bloomed! So Pretty! I'm glad you're getting to see more hummingbirds- I think it's worth changing the water more often!

I went plant shopping today, buying some things for my side job. Of course I had to ge a couple of things for myself! It was fun. :)

I love ferns... can't believe they come back every year!!! my irises are all gone... some started and flopped over... and I still have some that might bloom... not so lucky with them...

dahlias are growing finally....... really nice and green!!!! nice blooms on some roses... specially minis!!!

Cape Cod, MA(Zone 7a)

Cindy, beautiful gardens!

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

Cindy, I have no idea the names of the irises... (no suprise ) I have some tall ones that have only leaves... the smaller ones were purple and yellow... really cute... the 2 fancy ones Andy gave me I forgot the name... they were purple and really smaller flowers.. the one I got to see was really pretty///

I planted at least 21 dalhias... and some are dinnerplates.... orange, purple , yellow, lilac time is the only one I remember the name now... I have a list somewhre in my computer at home... they are finally coming up... some are quite big already... ah I planted 6 bishop's children (Andy also gave me those!) they are such a dark green almost blaclk leaves... really pretty...

I am not so sure I am good with bulbs and tubers... some gladiolas didn't come up yet, all 4 callas are not doing anything... fresias... I planted 50 and nothing yet... anemonies - I planted more than 30 ... nothing either... so I am staying away from these... I will buy already started...

I was outside yesterday from 9 am till 7pm... rain and all I had a great time...I planted tons of seeds (zinnias and cosmos) and planted the baby daturas so they can grow more until I transfer them out... one bed just with different types of columbines (they are from seed, let;s see if they survive for next year...) another bed with just sunflowers, and one with tons of lavender and sage... I am so looking foward for those lavenders.... and finally all the cucumbers, zuccini and okra are planted... hopefully they will grow... this year the 4X8 beds are for experimenting with certain plants... I want to propagate some sedum and hostas...
my good neighbor John, gave me some huge hostas yesterday... he is always dividing and giving... and they are huge... I even split one because it was way huge...some really great looking hostas ....
I still have tons of places to plant... like the very front of the garden.... I have run out of ideas for today... I need to go to job lot and see if they have any boxwoods left... 4.50 can't beat that price and some really good plants..it's probably too late now...

very nice Kassia - I think you are doing a great job

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Nice Kass.

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

they don't last very long... that's the sad part.... I have some others but they are not doing anything....

the gladiolas are coming.... tons of leafs!!!!!!!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

True - that's one of the bad things about Iris. But different varieties have different bloom times. And a few will re-bloom a bit. You have to cut the spent flower stalks for any chance of that.

Cape Cod, MA(Zone 7a)

Thanks, grampapa!

Kassia, Your irises are pretty. I think the purple and white one looks like one called "Wabash-" very nice.

Some bulbs, like Callas, are slow to show themselves- I wouldn't give up yet!

One thing bulbs don't like is being too wet- bearded iris like the tops of their tubers to get a little sun- it helps keep them from rotting. Maybe you could pull the mulch off of them and just have it around them. It takes a couple of years for them to get well established, too.

I really admire your enthusiasum! You're doing great.

I got to see Laura's garden Sunday- It is so pretty in person.

Happy Birthday Laura!!!!

Cindy
