small evergreen shrub for shady border

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

I am looking for a small blooming shrub to plant along my narrow front border at my house. There is little sun, but it's not dark there. I would love something that bloomed also, but that is not the most important quality I'm looking for. The most important quality is that it be evergreen and can tolerate zone 6 winters.

Rhododendons: Plug in height @ ten years, lowest winter temperature, color and bloom time. Also Lepidote (scaly leaf bottoms, usually small leaves) or Elepidote, no scales but sometimes hairy leaf bottoms, larger leaves. Nearly all Lepidotes and Elepidotes are Evergreen.

Azalea search same info as above but Deciduous or Evergreen. Deciduous have really striking colors. Some bloom before the leaves emrge.

Some Lepidotes, such as Ginny Gee (pink, everyone's favorite), cannot be distinguished from Evergreen Azaleas without a magnifier. My favorites: Silver Sword (Evergreen Azalea variegated), Goldflimmer (Elepidote variegated), Hachman's Diamant (Elepidote), R. impeditum (Lepidote) form with extremely narrow leaves.

Rhododendrons, are slightly higher (don't root as easy).
They do not carry Deciduous Azaleas (very hard to root)
