Thanks guys,
Another one opened this morning identical to the first.. so I did not take photos again..

That bi-color star is awesome!!!

Antoinette,

Y'know, the real life flower doesn't bear a lot of similarity to the package pictures does it?

That pink stripe within the white stripe is out of this world!

Joseph,
You are right, it doesn't look anything like the photos.

I've got over 30 different varieties in bud right now, so let's see what surprises I get. Soon there will be some in bloom, hopefully a different one each day.. So far several have not been what I expected, but nice flowers and I am so happy.

Not only is the pattern unique the color is totally out of this world. That one is super special. I love it!

Lakeland, FL(Zone 9b)

Wow! Gorgeous pictures of a real beauty! That is a new twist on the pattern! - Arlan

I really like the photos too, the flower got a darker pink almost fushia color later in the night. There are two vines in that pot, I wonder what the next one will bring.

Paul, it will be very interesting to see what you get. This pack is an old pack (probably two years)..

Yer Welcome Antoinette!

And if you're able to collect seeds, the organizer of that co-op can beg for a few, can't she?!

I actually planted a couple of Kongo seedlings today...my grandbaby (she's 4) wanted them growing in my garden. Hopefully she picked out two wonderful seeds and I'll get something just as awesome!

Sandy

You bet Sandy... I'll keep my fingers crossed for some good surprises from yours.

Went to check the flowers and it seems that they are not forming pods, they look yellow and about to fall off.. there are still about 4 buds and maybe one of them will form seeds.. I wish I knew what to do to make them stay on..lol. (superglue??)

This is flowerbud #3 , it has the stigma sticking out and looks like a little bell, the pollen will probably dry out..

Have a quick question, then off to work! Were the 1st set of true leaves on your Kongo solid or variegated? The two I planted yesterday have solid leaves so just curious. Does anyone know if the "real" Kongo has solid or variegated leaves? Thx

Sandy

Sandy,
I'll go check on it today, it did have variegation on the leaves, on one tip it almost looks white, on that third bloom anyway. There are two vines in that pot from the Kongo mix. So, I don't know if it is the same vine. But I'll check.

Kongo means mix doesn`t it? I

You think maybe it is possible you will get variety in leaves being solid and variegated on the same vines?

My favorite Mt fuji blue begins with two solid leaves and then the leaves change to variegated then become busily variegated toward the end of the vines.

Sandy,
I have the cotyledon photos in my DG diary just by chance I took these.. under clotyledons Feb 4 2007,, one of them was green and one had some variegation on it.

Sandy, this vine has green leaves. the second one has the variegated leaves the one with the tube.

Karen,
I don't know what Kongo means, but it should mean SUPRISE..lol

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

Yep, these nils are full of surprises! They will teach you a thing or two before it is over too!

I thought one plant and this one was straight out of the pack from Japan was going to be solid because the first two true leaves looked solid and then it began to throw out variegated leaves and turned vareigated.

Make sure pollen gets on the pistil and it will help you get pods. You still have some that don`t take here and there especially some of the first ones. Then as the vine matures it becomes a seed making machine.

Mesilla Park, NM

Karen, thanks, I'll go try that right now on the other pink one that opened today, It is in a pot and in a room by itself. So, noone can touch it..lol.. and I will tie it after I take more photos.
