How can I tell a young bindweed plant from a young morning glory plant?
newbie question
Mobi - post any photos that you may have...the term 'bindweed' has been variously applied to plants that spread by underground rhizomes and to some that do not spread by underground rhizomes...
The annual MG's will sprout from seed and show the cotyledons whereas the perrenial 'bindweed' types will much more often just throw up shoots from the roots and the embryonic leaves are rarely seen...
Let's see what you got(?!)...

I'll get you some pictures tomorrow. But they are past sprouting and are plants but not yet blooming. I don't want to pull them out until I am sure that they are bindweed as I seeded a lot of MG (but I also have a lot of bindweed).
Mobi - The plant you posted above doesn't look like any type of Convolvulaceae to me...it does look like something in the genus Polygonum or Fallopia...

I think it may be the buckwheat from the birdseed I put out last year and this year!
Thanks Ron, that really helped!
