We watched a monarch cat pupate and built a little home for him to be safe in while he goes thru his metamorphosis. This is our first time. We brought him inside because it was getting windy and stormy. It's been a week today and the cocoon doesn't seem to be changing at all. It's not getting any larger or transparent. I may be getting too impatient. If the process went wrong, would the cocoon turn black? Is the fact that it's still green mean everything is going okay? I can see the emergent seam more clearly I think. The cocoon just seems so small to me. I can't imagine a whole butterfly coming out. I've attached a pic. It's a little hard to see through the screen but it's right in the middle. I was just expecting some kind of changes by now but like I said, I'm probably being really impatient. I just want it to be healthy! =)
Monarch pupae help
G, it will turn dark and you'll be able to see the wings, when he's ready to eclose, some take longer than others, up to 10 days. It looks like a normal size to me. I'd give it some more time.
I've had tiny chrysalises open to a healthy Monarch, little but healthy.
