Yesterday, I received a beautiful H. lacunosa in the post...the NEW one with all the spotted leaves. OH, it is SO beautiful! And...I received it from a good DG buddy in Louisiana (who has been thru more trauma in this one lifetime than most of us would have in 10 lifetimes)... I know that she had been offered 'tons' of money for this hoya...and she sent it to me in friendship. Wow. I was overwhelmed!!!
Thanks, Dianne...you ROCK!!!
Thank you, friend -
Awesome, Carol. It IS gorgeous! I can smell the bloom from here.:)

That's beautiful!! You do rock, Dianne!

Isn't it amazing how generous and kind "hoya" people are? :)
I met someone on another forum who saw that I had a lacunosa but it wasn't blooming, and I desperately wanted to smell the blooms. Well, she sent me a huge box of a multiflora cutting, a very large blooming bella, and a HUGE blooming lacunosa with about SIXTY peduncles! She wouldn't even take postage from me.
And now that my bella is in distress, she has offered to send me more bella cuttings, and as a *bonus* is sending me one of her large blooming pubicalyx 'pink silver' (she said that the vines are about 10-20 FEET long!!!!). I cannot contain my excitement. I will be sure to post pics when I get the box.
Anyway, it is just so wonderful to know that there are people out there that do things out of pure kindness. Karen, you were so nice to send me those plants when you hardly even knew me. And you expected nothing in return. I think it's nice to do this for people, because then we can give back, which I plan to do. And the hoya circle goes round and round :))
I just found someone that needs some help getting her collection started, and I am really looking forward to helping her out. Some people are so shocked when you offer them cuttings for free!
Congrats on you BEAUTIFUL new hoya Carol. I've been searching all over for that one. I'm sure I'll run into it since I know it's being sold in New York.

My hoya Godmother was Ann Wayland. She sent a hugh box of ten different cuttings to me back in the fall. I was a new DG member and was floored at the generousity. I'm collecting hoyas feverously now and hope to pass on the generousity soon myself(except all of mine are in 2" pots at the moment.)

The hanger part of that plant looks like Exotic Angel...I heard a rumor there were some of these going around at the box stores....does anyone know what the deal is? Is it a separate variety? Over the years I have seen lacunosa in varying degrees of this look, some darker, some lighter, I always thought it was just a matter of how much light they are getting. Anyone know otherwise??
Gabi, lucky you! Pink Silver was one of my first hoyas, I still have it, the peduncles are like three inches long! After the first time it bloomed, I realized it was not a carnosa and that is the plant that sent me searching for more hoyas - little did I know the extent of what I would find!!!! I also got my collection started due to the generousity of two people I met online, between them both I got about 15 varieties worth of cuttings, and neither person asked for anything in return. The plants grown from those cuttings mean more to me than any plant I have bought on my own.
Well....I am thrilled - to say the least. AND - plant folks are generally the MOST giving/forgiving folks around!!! What a joy it is to be one of them!!!!
Hoyas do take on different 'looks' due to growing conditions...and this one seems to be a veritable 'sport' rather than growing condition related. I am just goofy about H. lacunosa anyway...love them!!!
My hoya Godmother was Christina from Sweden :). A LONG time ago now (it seems) she sent me a bunch of hoya cuttings from Sweden. At the time I didn't really know much about hoyas nor had I learned of Dave's. I think the only one that made it to "adulthood" has been Heuschkeliana (sp?) from the cuttings :( I have SUCH a hard time with cuttings. I have since purchased many hoyas (mostly common ones) and also received some super nice rooted cuttings last year from a friend here at Dave's (not sure I should mention her name without asking but she knows who she is and I cherish her dearly) which I'm happy to report are all doing wonderfully. I have done alot of research and read ALL of the hoya threads and have learned SO MUCH from everyone here and I'm happy to report that I'm trying to root some cuttings on my own using all the knowledge that you have all taught me :) So far they look great. I am trying Curtisii, Multiflora and of course Heuschkeliana as she seems to be one of my easiest to grow for some reason. Most of my hoyas are too small to bloom but I have had a million blooms from Multiflora, Sheperdii (full of buds right now) and Heuschkeliana which keeps me addicted :)
Thank you to everyone who shares their words of wisdom to all of us to read, learn and grow on :) I appreciate you all so much.
It's so nice to have a garden here at Dave's to share so many facets of life, both living and plant life. I love being a member here and cherish the friends I have met.

I think the secret to rooting cuttings is to just not overthink it. A little rooting hormone, pop them in some moist soil, a warm and bright spot with no direct sun - mist occasionally, water when they start to get dry - and the rest of the time, just ignore them!
A good way to work with curtisi cuttings - put the rooting end of the stem below soil level like normal, then take the rest of the stem and pin it to the top of the soil, coil it in the pot if it is very long. Use u-shaped hair pins or paper clips or stiff wire bent into a u shape. Just make sure the stems have contact with the soil and then mist often to keep the soil surface moist. This will result in a fuller plant much quicker than just planting the cuttings upright.
Thanks Carol, !!! You are the best!! Still keeping my eyes out for another one!!
Theres nothing like sharing my GrandMother always told me when you share your plants will become huge plants!! it's true!!
I keep going back to the sharing is caring!!!
Dianne
Dianne you must be a very sharing person I've seen inside your GH and everything is gorgeous!!

I have heard the same thing about Angel Exotics, but i can't find one for Nan on DG....but I keep looking....almost makes me want to get into Hoyas....that speckled one is a keeper for sure!!!!
gail
ummm Gail, what is this "almost" business? Is it really possible you're not into hoyas yet...???
I have to join in and say that my hoya addiction (yes, it's come to that) began with two traders (I have lost the name of one, and recently just reconnected with the other) and I am forever grateful. The pubicalyx and carnosa from those first trades are on their third round of blooms this spring! They are in my office window and I totally love it.
I also have to thank Bec_No_Va again for letting me adopt a bunch last year - a huge # of them. I've been re-sharing those this spring so we have more hoya love going around :-)) Now if only my small cuttings will grow up!
forgot to say - that's a lovely lacunosa!!!
Yes...it IS a lovely lacunosa!!!! Thanks....
Keyring, I haven't bought one yet!!!! I posted pictures on the hoya forum last night. Yesterday I visited a friend who grows them right here in our little town.
Beautiful, Carol!
Can't blame you one bit for showing her off!
Good friends are a blessing!
Keyring - thanks for mentioning me - I still do not have any Hoyas - but, I do drop by here to see new and fun stuff! I hope they are all doing well for ya!
