This is one of Ron's.
This is so elating... the poor plant has been thru two dogs and wind, and has recuperated wonderfully. It has several tiny buds right now. Supposed to be the true SOH.
Scarlett Ohara STR-62 has buds..
I will be something when it blooms, so far I've counted three buds.. It's a miracle it has survived me..

Do you remember approximately what date you planted these? I'm just curious because I planted some seeds approx. 2 or 3 weeks ago, and they are about 4 inches high today. Just wondering when I can expect some flowers. I can't wait! I have a trellis ready and waiting for them.
Hi Sugarplum1,
They were sown on January 29, 2007 and budded on May 19, 2007 and it took approximately 112 days.. I am keeping a log of at least 250 types and will put them in the DG Diary at the end of the season, I really wanted to know this info for my own purposes and could not locate it anywhere, so I am making my own chart..lol. of sorts..
You will probably get buds sooner than that if they are growing outside with the natural sunlight.. The un-natural lighting seems to not be as good for them in my opinion. The ones in front of the windows got buds alot sooner than the ones under lights.
Hope that helps and also, if you are growing others, there are several of the dates, species.. etc.. in my DG diary marking different dates.

Here's my Scarlett O'Hara...maybe 100 more days to go! LOL
The seeds were from a commercial packet sold by Northrup King/Plantation Products Inc., Norton, MA under the "Fredonia" label. The picture on the packet is solid red corolla flowers. The species is not identified on the packet. I always thought Scarlett O'Hara was I. purpurea, but the leaves of this one I am growing do not have that nice heart-shaped leaf I associate with I. purpurea. Then I looked in the PlantFiles and the cultivar is placed under I. nil which is what the leaf shape appears to be.

Hi Joseph,
It will be interesting to compare the amount of days between all of us. If you put yours outside now, it will bloom alot sooner. I just feel it..lol mine had too much winter time indoors.,
A.
Very exciting A. Can't wait to see if she's all red.
I can't wait to see this bloom...maybe tomorrow?
Norma,
That first one is I. Purpurea Rebecca
the second one is Sidney (I think) let's see if anyone can ID them for you.
Put the photos in their own post and we can get more Identifications, just in case others don't see them here.
They look great.

has relatively recent marketing names of Sydney and also sometimes called Caprice...
I honestly don't recall this light blue having any quasi-official name previously but it always came out of the Ipomoea purpurea mixes...

Oh, what a tease! We still can't see if the throat is white or red!
FINALLY!!!!! I am SO happy it is really a Scarlett O'Hara because I have Ron's seeds started, too!!!!!
Isn't it great to know that you have the real thing? I am very happy about this. Hopefully Ron will see this post or the other one. When did you plant your seeds? I've got to add the bloom date to the first thread to keep the dates documented.
A.
I just got my seeds in due to the surgery...but should be in plenty of time for lots of blooms. Once our summer gets going the MGs grow like wildfire in this area. I think it's because we don't have drought and the soil is rich and moist.
That's the prettiest SO'H in DG. I hope you'll post it on Plant Files. I have one there, but it's not as perfect as yours.
A, she's lovely. Very nice to see the true red again.
Jackie
Beautiful - she looks like silk.
What are the chances of getting the "true" SOH from commercial seed? Long shot? Just curious.

Grow_Jo - I addressed this question to some degree in the post here

Thanks Ron, I knew this had been discussed somewhere...

Hey Gourd, Did you also mark the stem right under the flower?(So you can come back and find the developing pod later? I`d use 1/2 the yarn width for tying the stem. You pull the yarn apart and use fewer threads for the stem on the delicate flowers and it is easier to get around the little stem without breaking off the flower.
Just checking :)
disregard if you did that already.

no, I better do that today, the flowers are still on there so there is still some time to do it.. Thanks for the reminder.
