I cut all my clematis down to the ground this spring cause they were just babies. Anyhow those puppies have really taken off now and some are over 2 feet tall and very bushy with lots of nice stems. My miniature rose bushes are coming back nicely too. My Veronica Spicata also survived the winter yay! All the phlox are doing well too! Yay I can't wait to see things start blooming!!!
What about you folks???
What is growing nicely for you right now?
I have catmint blooming already - the daffodils are mainly over, irises are getting ready to bloom.
Flax,columbine and iris mainly.
clematis, amsomia (sp?) & globe flower
I had a beautiful little blue garden it turns out. with hosta 'blue cadet', polemonium 'stairway to heaven' a pulmonaria and some beautiful forget-me-not all blue flowered bordered by a small green hosta called 'green elf'. the forget-me-nots and the polemonium are still in bloom and the pulmonaria is just finished. It came out in early april and has had tremendously long bloom time! I didn't really plan it that way, but it came together so nicely. also, here's a picture of my pride and joy at the moment, my 'Delaware Valley' azaleas. I have to go and look at them several times a day. they are just at peak now!

Creeping phlox, daffodils, one crabapple (not the other though), flowering quince, species tulips and primroses.
Oh, yeah! forgot about the columbine - just beautiful in the front yard. Pansies are going strong too. Lily of the Valley is starting to bloom, and the Bleeding Hearts (pink ones and white ones) look spectacular. I have an orange azalea blooming . . .
little colder here... my daphne's are still in bloom giving off their wonderful scent. Also, redbud, kerria japonica, Olga rhody, camassia, fothergilla, ajuga, columbines. azaleas just starting. Only clematis is macropetala. Other clematis busting with buds.
As I look around to come up with that list, it dawns on me, they are all scattered about. why don't I have these plants planted together somewhat to work their color magic. Once a plant collector, never a designer....
Weeds! The weeds are growing like weeds!
Same here - the long-handled cultivator (you know, the claw thing) got a real workout early this week.
lilacs (flowers gone now), hostas and pretty much all the annuals that I have planted this spring (marigolds, pansies, fushia for starters). oh and my grape vine has sprouted some leaves.
my iris are just started. the dwarf beardeds are underway and the talls have lots of buds and should be out next week.
Martha
Big City, I absolutely LOVE that Agastache and the Bachelor Buttons! Takes my breath away. Blue is my absolute favorite color in the garden! Whenever you happen to split those up, would you keep me in mind? I may have something out in the garden that you would like in trade.
My daffs are actually still blooming (nearing the end right now), the creeping phlox is beautiful, I have flax also in bloom, primrose and my first dwarf iris opened up. I just ordered 4 drumstick primrose off e-bay as I have admired them for a long time and since the primrose has come back 2 years in the garden I figured I would try them *lol*
Here is a shot of my first dwarf iris.

After I finished weeding I went out and took some photos. I could actually find some flowers growing - just kidding!! My shade garden seems to be doing quite well this year. It has a couple of hostas, bleeding heart, and astilbes. This is the best the astilbes have looked and I hope they will flower better than they usually do. The skunk is in memory of a skunk that I killed there under an old storage shed and stunk up the whole neighborhood for one summer :+( (I'm holding my nose-new grammyphoeb sign)
This is a collage of some of my container plants that I have started. They have not filled in very much yet, but have a lot of growing to do.
The rocks in the planter with the succulents and the solar lantern came from the farm I grew up on. It was called Manorcrest Farms owned by A.W.Hudson & Sons and then names the four sons: Charles (my father), Harlan, Earl, and Olin. The farm was sold a few years ago and my dad died two years ago. The farm was my life for many years and when it was sold, it left an empyt spot for myself and my two daughters. We brought some rocks back from Camillus, NY with us to have a piece of it in Glens Falls.

Iris, a few Clematis, Columbine, Weigela, Viburnum, Physocarpus starting. I know there's more. Yes Al, I like that perennial Bachelor Button too. What's the variety??
My hostas look great, day lilies are coming in nicely, rhodies look good and my red azalea is beautiful, I still have a lot of work to do in my gardens since the people who lived here before me had no clue. But I like the fact that I can go and make it my own.
Grammyphoeb,
So sad to hear about your family farm. That must have been very hard. It's good that you were able to keep a small piece of it. I often bring small rocks back from special places that I visit.
Your containers look really nice already.
Here is a better photo of the farm that my daughter took. When my daughter moved to a new apartment she had an empty wall and didn't know what to put there but wanted a special picture. Her grandfather, My father, had her take him for a ride and they went up on a hill over looking the farm and she knew she wanted a picture of that. Next time she was armed with several cameras and took many shots and chose the best to be enlarged and also gave one to her grandfather. This is one of the shots but it has been scanned 2 or 3 times so it's a bit blurry and I don't think it's the one she enlarged.
Pixie, I love your pink and yellow tulips :)
Do you find they have a hard time returning for you in Maine? I seem to have hit or miss luck with tulips in my garden for some reason. We have very acidic sand here so I think that may be the cause? Or I tend to purchase ones that aren't hardy for our wintas :(
Nice to see another Mainer. I grew up for 5 or so years in West Peru Maine :)

Kim,
My Brother lives in Mexico, Maine so I know Peru well. The pink and yellow tulip is "Blushing Beauty" or "Elegant Lady" (think its BB) anyways it has returned for the last 4 yrs now and i couldn't be more pleased. I have some "Shirley" tulips and each year less comes up and the ones that do are small! I had them planted with "Negrita" but those disappeared 2 years ago.
This bed is in it's 2nd year of bloom and so far everything has come back.
Pixie, what a beautiful picture! I love your tulips! Amazing. (hanging head in shame). I try so hard to garden in this acidic sand I have with the small budget I have to work with and all the work that needs to be done to improve the soil I have to stick with what I CAN grow *lol* Absolutely stunning!
Kim
pixie - gorgeous flowers and photos. I wished mine looked that good!
