I cannot get over how large that Episcia is! You're definitely doing something right with it! Flower jigging with you! ;o)
Help me get Kee-wee to bloom...
I totally missed this!! Being gone so much and not having time to play on DG is no fun! LOL Yay! Congratulations! Glad to know the flower jig worked!
You must have sent a few of the good vibes to me, because one of my Episcias has buds, too! Can't remember if it's Chocolate Soldier or Grey Lady. It's in a terra cotta pot and the name tag sticker I had on it came off a while back. I'll figure it out when it blooms. :oP
This picture looks like Chocolate Soldier to me............it is not Grey lady,I know for sure....
OK Chocolate Soldier it is, then. :o) I don't use those stick-on labels anymore. I bought the plastic markers to stick down in the pot. Now I only lose them if I knock them off the counter, like I did a couple other Episcias! LOL How wonderful it is to be so clumsy! :oP
Yay Amy!!! Then we'll all have flowers in a couple days! Guess the jig works for everyone... anyone else have flower buds they want to share???
What a lovely greeting you had! I'm glad Kee Wee finally came through for you!
~Brenda
That's beautiful!
KeeWee is one of my favorites.
MsC
glad your Kee Wee decided to bloom....................waiting for mine to bloom.....pretty blooms
Thank you! I'm really happy she decided to bloom for me... and so fast after the changes I made, by pulling off the stolons and boosting up the fertilizers.
I too, am waiting on more of the buds to open, then I'll post more photos.
Woohoooo! Congratulations!
With episcias, I think the leaves are so stunning that it's OK with me if they don't bloom... occasional blooms are a fun bonus, though, and my leggy plants are giving me a few buds and blooms this summer! I need to devote an afternoon to serious grooming and repotting of those plants so that I have some extras for Rose this fall!
Thanks Critter...
I agree with you on the foliage, but the blooms are so bright and pretty, I didn't want to have plants that never bloomed... and this Kee-wee had never bloomed in almost two years, until now!
The babies I got from you at the plant swap are doing really well! I am almost to the point of potting them up and out of their dixie cup biodomes. 'Blue Nile' especially, really took off... but they have all grown noticeably, so I know they all rooted. The alsobia 'Cygnet' is getting ready to be potted up and thrown outside for the rest of the summer. From what I've seen of others' alsobias, mine should really like the humid and bright shade conditions on my balcony.
I did put in that I am interested in the fall swap, and I still want to come... but I'm not as hopeful now that I will be able to make it that particular weekend. Ah well, we can't win them all!
Karen
If you can't make it, we'll just have to do a little trading by mail! Episcia stolons travel pretty well. :-)
Great!!! Sounds good to me!!!
Episcias have become my new favorite plant!!!
8*)
Of course, I could just *insist* that you come to the swap.... LOL... it won't be the same without you!
Thanks Critter... that's sweet of you! I don't think anyone would miss us though!
No way would your absence be unnoticed or unregretted! I hope your schedule will work out so that you can make it after all. :-)
Is that a tennis ball in the first picture (from July 1st) showing how big the leaves are?? Wow! Big and beautiful. I agree the blooms are just a bonus as the leaves are just so pretty on this one, and so many of the others!
~Brenda
Yes Brenda, that is a tennis ball. I don't know if Kee-wee is considered one of the largest growers, but I know one site (don't remember which one) called it a vigorous grower! Ha! I'll vouch for that!
It sits in an east window, and is quite forgiving of me forgetting to water on occasion... so I would say she is a great all-round plant... especially now with pretty red blooms! :-)
Karen
I have a large Pink Panther that I've been waiting and waiting to see bloom. When I first joined here at DG I saw all the posts about removing stolons as they come on and so trimmed it all up within the last month. And now I see some buds forming!!
The pleasure we get from such simple things is amazing :))
~Brenda
Don't I know it! Please post photos when your Pink Panther blooms.
I don't have that one... maybe we can trade a stolon or two sometime.
Karen
I ran and took a couple of pictures of the buds forming on Pink Panther. This has definitely been a vigorous grower but I guess it was so busy sending out those stolons that it couldn't get up the energy for blooms :))
I'd love to trade some stolons!! I've been sticking all the real little guys that I'm taking off of Pink Panther and Aloha Mauna Loa into a terrarium atmosphere and even they are rooting right up. But I have a couple bigger ones left too.
~Brenda
Both of those are very pretty. I better go start up some more of mine! ;-)
How cute is that??? Was that originally a seedling? It looks really good! I have seedlings from a mix that Keyring gave me, and they are getting so big! I really have to divide them and pot them up this weekend!
By the size of the blooms, I would say that is Pink Panther you've got there... it's very pretty!
No, my KeeWee was originally a lovely plant. It dwindled to absolutely nothing, and then this little guy peeked through. :o) That's why I preach to never, ever throw something away til you know for certain it's gone...then wait 3 more weeks. LOL
I looked up Pink Panther and Teddy Bear and found a place that says Pink Panther has the "pine tree" design in the middle of the leaves, so I'm in agreement with you that it's Pink Panther. All mine are named, I just haven't been diligent with labelling them. There are only certain ones they can be, and I only have a few Episcias, so that makes it easier to narrow down what they are. I'm going now to search my dmail to see if I can find where someone sent me Pink Panther.
That is amazing that you can start out with something that small and God just grows it!!!!!!!!!thanks for the comparison
