Filoli Gardens

Weymouth, MA

A must see...fabulous, mature gardens in Woodside, CA, at the base of the mountains just south of San Francisco. Visit San Francisco...go to the Filoli gardens. You won't be disappointed. Don't let web pictures discourage you; they do not do justice.

I tried to upload a picture to show the spirit of the gardens. I chose the giant yews. They are everything, but there is also a beaufiful sunken garden, magnificent perennial borders, an unbelievable rose standards collection and rose shrub collection, know gardens, meadows, fields, olive groves, and more. The most impressive thing to me (living in a relatively new city, Birmingham, AL) is the maturity of the gardens.

So happy you've discovered Filoli (Fidelity, Love, Life)

I was born and raised and lived very near there for 48 years. Truly the center of the universe! My mom was a docent. The organization and volunteers do a wonderful job, just wonderful. Someone posted an entire thread of personal pics of her visit about a year ago. Kell? Can't remember who it was .

Mighta been Calif_Sue who posted the tour of Filoli. I'll keep thinking and if I find it will repost here.

minor correction, Filoli was meant to translate as follows.
Fight for a just cause
Love your fellow man
Live a good life.

It was pounded into me when I worked there as a gardener.

Ah HA! I remember now! Thanks D_D. My granny would be turning in her grave since I first heard those emblematic words from her when she told me about Filoli. She's my idol! You lucky doggy! To have worked there! The best assignment on the planet! ...or close.
