woops!
Daily Butterflies page 4
Love the American Ladies! Do you know where the host for it is there? I get the AL's but I can't tell where they came from. The sunflower everlasting is one, and it is a wooley sliver colored foliage with white/yellow centered flowers on top~
Pearly Everlasting, Anaphalis margaritacea

Another one is greener foliage~
Plantain-leaf Pussytoes, Woman's Tobacco:
Antennaria plantaginifolia
http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/69482/index.html
I'd like to find it growing wild around here, and not that I'm cheap, lol. I just want to make sure it is authentic host material.
:-D
I have no idea how I got this one into my yard. I do not, to my knowlwedge, have any of its host plants. However, it's always SO EXCITING to see a new butterfly in the yard! I will check out the links. -Sue
snuzer - Gorgeous Butterfly photos! Looking at your photos, I think that I have seen an AL around here as well. Not lately though.
Deb - I want one of the Plantain-leaf Pussytoes! Just because of the name ..... Pussytoes! I like how that sounds! Reminds me a of a kitty's toes! lol When friends come by and check out my garden ..... I can say .... And here is my Pussytoes! LOL! I am sure that will get their attention! I love it!!!
Thanks, Becky. I wouldn't mind having some of that Plantain-leaf Pussytoes around here either! Sad story- on Sunday I harvested a passion fruit and took out its seeds. I laid them out to dry on a napkin and went to church. When I got home, my husband had cleaned the kitchen and thrown out those precious suberosa seeds!.....Now I must wait for another fruit. But lesson learned-- I must identify my little projects with "Do not Touch" signs.
Snuzer - OH NO!!!!!!!! Hey, those suberosa seeds are at a premium around here on this forum! My hubby did the same thing last year. He's never done it again. If it is laying there, that's where it stays! LOL! You know the old saying, "If mama isn't happy, no one is happy!" Well ..... you can just imagine ..... LOL!
Very cool picture!
Oh Sue! How tragic! You'd think they would know not to touch any or our projects, or at least ask first. My DH would be in the doghouse bigtime! Please remember me when you finally do get seeds from the suberosa. :-D
This Sulphur skipped all over the place for about an hour, left, and came back..lol.
Deb - Very cool! I've been releasing mine every day. I am down to about 5 left. None are sticking around. I'm so stumped about it! You should see my Maypop vines! I tried draping them over the fence until I can figure out how to save them for y'all!
I spent the entire day outside in almost 90 degree heat working in the yard. My hubby had off today, so he took the chain saw and cleared out all the Brazilian Pepper Trees away from our backyard. There were so many branches hanging over the fence that it was shading almost a third of the bogless garden beds. Now it's nice and sunny again. I may regret that as the temps soar. I won't tell ya how scarey it was watching him climb up the ladder (with the saw) sitting on uneven ground to cut down all the heavy branches. I kid ya not .... I could see the headlines in the newspaper saying "man chopped up by chain saw as he was cutting trees from a ladder and fell." I am so glad he didn't get hurt! That's about as insane as it gets around here and that was enough for me! The crazy things we do! Now I am praying he doesn't break out in a rash. He very allergic to those BPT! They rate right up there with the Cuban Tree frogs. Bad news!!!!
I weed-eated along the "outside" of the entire fence and made a path to get back there between the fence and overgrown vacant lot. A lot of weeds were creeping into my garden beds from behind the back of the fence. And then I edged the rest of the yard and around all the beds. And if that wasn't enough to kill me .... I weeded by hand every single garden bed in the front and back! I am sore! Bone tired. And punchy ..... almost giggly and silly from being so dang tired. Whew! What a day!
Tomorrow I plant more seeds to fill in empty areas in the garden beds. And then hopefully the mail will come on time and I'll get some dvd movies to watch. I plan to kick my feet up and get my bon-bons ready and watch a chick flick or two. Cause school was finished yesterday and I am home for 2 months! Whoo hoo!!!!! This gal is going to enjoy every moment!

Deb - We were both typing at the same time. Oh my gosh! Those in-flight shots of the skipper are amazing!!! Great action shots! Way to go, girl!!!! Nice, very nice!! :-)
Becky-I, too, am a teacher on summer vacation! Wow, you did a lot of work outside in the heat today! I have planted a lot of seeds recently. I have not been brave enough to put them right into the garden, though. I am afraid they will get washed away if we have hard summer rains.
Deb- Those Sulphur pictures are great- I especially like the first one- It's really neat to see it in flight. BTW, my giant & dwarf zinnia seeds have germinated so maybe one day I'll have beautiful blossoms like yours!
Snuzer - I am a teacher "assistant" for an ESE class of little people! The principal and others have asked me about being a teacher, but I just can't put in the endless hours that teachers are required to do! I have my own family and they are my priority. And I like to be able to go home at night and not take my work with me. As an assistant, I DO teach, but I don't have to do all the paperwork, meetings, and planning. My job is ideal except for the pay! LOL! You have my admiration! Teaching is more than just a career. It's a way of life! :-)
Deb - I meant to say Sulpher Butterflies, not Skippers! I'm tired. Time to go to bed! Nite, Nite .... everyone!
Sue!
I have to apologize girl! The post got stacked in here and I failed to see some of your great pics up in this thread. You sure are getting some beauties, and I really appreciate you sharing those great pics. :-D
I am about to start page 5 bc this thread has almost 100 posts. I may work it to make new after 50 from now on..
Well today I had 3 Orange Dogs hatching at once. I have to know if they can coexist if they hatch at the same time.. I know it's a bit crazy, but I was thinking the different sizes have a lot to do with the canibal thing.
Deb - Separate them!!!! Mine all hatched at the same time. But one just happened to be a bit larger and ate the smallest. And the other one died for an unknown reason. If you want them all to make it, separate them now!!!!
That was 2 of them.. This other one was on another leaf>
So so tiny... I have to use a magnifying glass to see them with clearity.
I am using a regular plastic critter cage now. I put a piece of toule over the top and them fasten the top on. This way those lepicidal nymphs can not get to the wee catters......this time.
:-Deb
Ok ok Becky.. You talked me into it. I will see what I can manage. I only have so many "little" critter cages. Guess I can run to the store and grab some more containers.
Thanks!!
