Here is are a couple Allium christophii. I need to move them to a better spot as they get lost where I have them planted. Patti

Here is the only one that is really open from the 30 I planted of Allium Caeruleum (azureum) The others will be along soon. They are a nice clear blue. Patti

Patti, I have the Caeruleum too, but it isn't blooming yet. Sure wish it would bloom with the rest of the larger allium, it would be a nice mix of purple and blue and white then. I love it though!

Also, I'm glad to see others have the same problem as me with the Christophyii ... planting them where they get hid. I had daisies come up and surround mine this year.
They are a pretty flower.

Has anyone harvested seeds and planted in the spring. I planted the bulbs last fall and had about 20 beautiful spheres this spring. I happened to bring the dried balls in the house for display and now I have plenty of seeds. I read that I can start them in the spring in a cold frame. I thought I would try planting in pots in the house in early spring and then transfer them into the garden when it warms up. Any tips would be great.

Alliums are very easy from seed. Mine grow where they land but if you sow some in a pot and just leave them outdoors ensuring they don't dry out they should come up no problem.

I've never planted aliums before, but the pictures in this thread are very pretty. How long do aliums bloom? Is it a quick blooming flowers, or will it stay a while? I'm looking forward to next year's garden already, and there are a lot of new plants that I would like to try.

They are in flower for quite a while and depending on the varieties you choose you can have different ones flowering for 3-4 months. This is Allium sphaerocephalum.
