have 3 of these cats eating my baby Erythrina Acanthrocarpa which is just recovering from a bad case of mealie bugs. If they are not something special I really hate to let them eat my recovering plant. Well they have already eaten all the leaves but a I a small back up plant that is healthy but don't want to move them to it if they aren't a good sphinx moth or butterfly
CLOSED: Any Idea??
I think it's a Sawfly larva of some kind. Any chance you are able to count the little prolegs on its abdomen? Butterflies and Moths all have five or fewer, sawflies six or more. The prolegs are the ones behind the regular-looking three pairs up front.
I believe you are right. I am finding them on my other Erythrinas as well. My Huge Cristi-gallii is loaded with them. I squished a bunch today
