I'm going to have to redo the back lawn because of all the bermuda grass, and I'm thinking of maybe putting in one of those lawns that look like a putting green. My husband loves to golf, and I thought it might be pretty neat if we used it for that. I know we would need a special mower, and that it would have to be mowed every 2-3 days, plus there is quite a bit of routine maintenance. But we would get so much enjoyment out of it (I think!), so I would love to hear from anyone who has done this, or knows someone who has done this, and how they like it.
Anyone have a putting green?
You can also buy fake grass that looks much more real than fake grass used to, then you don't have to worry about the constant mowing (and watering). I don't know if too many people have moved to using the fake stuff for their whole lawn yet, but it's popular for backyard putting greens.
There are two people in my neighborhood who have put this stuff in. The first year it looked okay, but this year both lawns have a bluish cast to them, and they look really artificial. Another thing they don't tell you about this stuff is that it gets really, really hot - like to the point of burning your bare feet. My dogs would not appreciate that!
Your property is beautiful. You have a regular Sports Center there, with the swimming and bocce ball and golf. I'm jealous!!!
The green is gorgeous and doesn't look anything like the artificial turf I've seen around here. My neighbors must have used the cheap stuff! I was thinking about going artificial, but my yard is so small that I have to use the whole thing for a green. It would be way too hot out there without real grass.
Thanks for the pictures!
Call Heavenly Greens and Forever Green ( or look on their web sites ) and ask for them to send you out their turf samples to inspect.
Yeah, they do get hot in full sun environments - a real negative.
To counter act this I suppose one could plant some large shade trees.
Also one company suggested that the fake turf to be sprinkled down with water every now and then to keep pollen and dust build up.
Lots of different qualities to choose from.
If you have a dog there is a specially engineered turf that has more breathable holes in the microbial mesh carpeting to allow for greater percolation rate, after you sprinkle it down with water to keep things sanitary.
There are defiinitely pros and cons with the product. I think you just have to weight how you plan on siting the product in the landscape , your climate , budget and lifestyle .
No, but I've considered an official sized croquet field. Fescue does well here but takes alot of water.ther
