CLOSED: nest and caterpillar

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

any idea what type of caterpillar this is?? I could see full grown cats crawling around inside the nest and there were a few on the ground already -- hope not too many were eaten by birds... as i have a feeder in this tree.

They're Eastern Tent Caterpillars. Birds will eat them, especially if you tear the tent open with a stick or something.

ah.... so with reading the negative comments... i should open it with a stick for the birds to eat. the nest is in a crab apple tree of sorts....

thanks.

heehee.... it's already done.

amazing how many came out... if i woulda thought about it... i would have "shook the stick" over the area where the birds eat.
