Does TOO much bloom booster cause this?

Mesilla Park, NM

It looks like the pistil grew way too fast.. these are tiny buds on the (what I thought were Wedding Bells) they are not Wedding Bells but some Pink Purpurea (thank you Ron for the ID). These have been fed bloom booster once and I think I used superthrive to water some of the plants that were windblown two weeks ago.

Now here is photo 2

there are a couple more buds like this. I should mention that the original first flowers never did open up completely.

This is what the flower looked like. And, that is the most it opened.

What MG Is That?

Mesilla Park, NM

I don't know, all I know is that Ron ID it as a pink purpurea.. It has the smallest mg flowers on it that I've ever seen for this type. This is the size of the bud almost ready to bloom. The second flower did not open up completely either, or I have to get up earlier, but that bud sure did not look like it was ever opened this morning.

A thought just occurred to me, it may not even pollinate itself with that stigma way out there.

A - it looks like your plant is producing some cleistogamic flowers...
I've seen plenty that look exactly like the ones you got there...the 'cleistos' are usually produced when the plant senses that something is out of 'sync' environmentally...

There are many different types of cleistogamic flowers...some never fully develop, but some actually show increased fertility...an entire field of study by itself...

The stigmas of 'cleisto's' are often supra-fertile in the hope(?) of catching any stray pollen grains in the local area...

TTY,...

Ron
