spittle bugs

Berkeley, CA(Zone 9a)

This year my garden is full of spittle bugs. They look terrible on everything but don't know if they do a lot of damage. Anyone in the Bay Area having the same problem. Control?

Ye Ol' garden hose is probably your best "control." They generally don't do any real harm, unless you get an excessive number. The spit is a protective device and loosing it will cause the larva to die.
I guess it just goes to show how weird I am, i find them intriguing and not so terrible looking. I just can't wait for my Voodoo Lily to bloom, so I can enjoy the fragrance and insect life it attracts.

I think I mentioned this on your other thread too, but I also use the garden hose approach. I've never seen any damage from them, but I think they're kind of gross looking so I hose them off when I see them. They also don't hang around really long, I only ever notice them right around this time of year, but then as we get into summer they disappear on their own.
