I have a lilac bush my son bought me 10 years ago. It has never bloomed (don't know why, except maybe it doesn't get enough sun). Finally this year it has 2 small lilacs. I was soooo excited. They smell great and are a medium purple with white around the edges. Now my question, is DO I pick them or do I let them go to seed? I would like to see it bloom again next year, so let me know what you think. Thanks, Karen S aka liebran

Where did you plant your lilac? You could cut off those blooms and stick them in a vase if you'd like. Your lilac could probably stand a good pruning right about now anyway after 10 years. You might want to try some lime to see if that might help with more blooms.

Here's a decent link on propagation-

I've never propagated a lilac from seed but did want to try it from softwood cuttings this spring simply to play around a little bit.
