I just wondered if anyone has seen this one bloom? It's blooming for me for the first time and in one cluster, there area few white lilacs. Is it just the result of hybridizing, or is this uncommon?
SYRINGA VULGARIS 'SENSATION'
Looks like you could use some work on the focusing...or was that dandelion in the second picture the bloom that were supposed to be looking at! ;-)

Aw, Brent, you're just mean. I'm sure it was the giddiness of the moment, and the fragrance/beauty of the scintillating Syringa was simply...Sensation-al!
ML:
That there's one of them reversions. You can keep it to admire (or dumbfound/confound your friends) or prune it out so that you keep your precious plant pure.
I don't think it's uncommon for lilacs to have color breaks. Probably where most of the variations arise. I planted a bunch of these (in my former life) on thoroughbred horse farms. They were reliably heavy bloomers. I like the edging on the dark flowers.
ML, I cannot address your issue but what a beauty. Does it have a good fragrance and is the fragrance the same on the "mutant" flowers? Brent, you crack me up! LOL I had a camera once that could not focus to save itself, I hated that camera and was so happy to finally get a new one. Went a whole year where the family looked all soft and wrinkle-free...hmmm....maybe I should dig that thing out. HA
Okay, so now you all know I am no photographer. I apologize. I'll do better next time. I did much better with my old print film, focus yourself, Nikon. Maybe I'll try to get a better one.
The flowers on this are wonderfully fragrant and beautiful. I was very surprised it bloomed this year. It was planted last fall.
Viburnum, thank you for your knowledge on this. I've never had anything revert back like this, so it was really my curiosity. I just love the white edging on it. And, I'd love to see the place where you planted all of those on that horse farm. It must just be amazing now.
No need to apologize! If you are using a digital camera check to see if it has a macro setting. That might work better for close pictures.
I have one lilac at my place planted by the previous owner. It is just about to bloom! I do not recall if it was fragrant...I just moved in about a year ago.
