Fat Albert Spruce

New Madison, OH(Zone 5a)

Can anyone tell me what rootstock to graft Fat Albert onto? My brother asked me this question..and I don't know? He knows how to graft.
Thanks...

Any spruce will do. Select whichever species tolerates your soils best - probably Picea abies (Norway Spruce).

Thanks Resin. Is it possible to take cuttings and root them from the Fat Albert?

Effectively, no. Spruces are generally extremely hard to root from cuttings.

Michael Dirr says.....'Fat Albert'--Dense upright pyramidal form with good blue nedle color, considered semi-dwarf, about 15' high, have seen a block of these at Iseli Nursery and the uniformity was astounding, [ produced by cuttings]

Thanks conifer50. Well...I guess it wouldn't hurt to try both, huh? Nothing chanced..nothing gained!
