Do you like this one?

Poland, ME

A friend of mine sent me this picture of a new variety. Actually he sent me a couple of bulbs which I planted last week. But his is in bloom now. New Asiatic named Dimention. Isn't it gorgeous?

WOW!!

So it is not an inter divisional hybrid?

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

Love it! Those dark ones are to die for! The flower appears larger than what I have seen so far in the dark color.

It almost looks like it could be an LA rather than an Asiatic.

Fox River Valley Are, WI(Zone 5a)

Thats what I was thinking. It looks very LAish.

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

Could be LA-ish, but the foliage doesn't look LA-ish. Does it? It looks too short.

Fox River Valley Are, WI(Zone 5a)

Well I don't know much about identifying lilies, perhaps it is the close up that made it look bigger than asiatic hybrids. It still is neat...

I volunteered at a local greenhouse yesterday and looked at those already blooming LA hybrids for hours, as the pots kept tipping over with the winds, so I was fussing with them a lot. I am by no means an expert ;), really. Perhaps some LAs don't get the longiflor. leaves and they pick up the asiatic leaves in the breeding. I suppose anything is possible. But, yes, the flower is quite large. I like it!

I am inquiring about the actual size. Also checking to see if it is an LA or Asiatic. I was impressed by the coloration. That's a hard color to great a decent photo.

A bit like Dark Moon or In the Cold Zone. Larger bloom though. I'll really have to take more pix of blooms this year.

Does anyone have the Saskatchewan Centennial Lily? Quite an ordinary looking whitish one. Just want because of the background. Maybe it will be at NALS.

Everything is far too far ahead here. Martagons budding already, though mine are oh so short. First bearded iris bloom this weekend. Globalwarming, here we come.

inanda, may I ask you a question?
Do you have a Martagon called "Lilac something"? Can't remember the last name but it is a gorgeous lavender color.

Mainiac, that is one beatuuuutiful lily color!
Hope you have that one in your next sale.

Whatever it is, it's luscious. Yum.....

I'm trying to remember if I've ever seen an Asiatic that has the deepth of color and substance that this one has. I don't recall any. However, I've seen plenty of LAs with those qualities. I'm still leaning towards LA. Can you find out more about it? I wouldn't mind having this one myself if the pic is true and not touched up.

Poland, ME

Well, I can get a picture in a couple of months of my own. Then I will be able to promise it isn't touched up. But I have a hard time with red/black colors and making them look true....

Alex 8 is the nearest I've ever seen to Dimention, colour-wise, not size.maybe Alex 5. Not really with it today. Irises on my mind.

Not too long and lilies and iris will be in Bloom.
singing along rather like Piglet and Winnie ther Pooh.

No flies around yet though.

Hi Maxine,

there are 6 or 7 lilies with the word lilac in their name. Can you be more specific. I mean, Asiatic, oriental, can you tell me what it looks like, age - I mean your Granny's favourite - which might mean an older one?

Will get back to you when it rains. At the mo - still cleaning up garden so siberian iris don't think they've been totally abandoned and forgotten.

Max, take a look at the Lily Nook's Library and see if any of their martagons look familiar:

Sorry about missing the word 'Martagon"' in your email. Case of reading too fast and not checking your email again.

There are the martagons that have spread into the wild in europe. Cold it be this that you are talking about. I'll see if I can put a picture here.

All mine are from Prairie hybridizers, mostly named with a bunch of my own seedlings as well as seedlings from another hybridizer. Seedlings have not bloomed yet, so don't know what they will look like..

Cant seem to put the picture I want, into DG.

I suppose, depending on where you are in Europe. But martagons are already native there, in general.
