They all look great, Karen! Growing from seed is so much fun and can really become an addiction, can't it? LOL Please continue to keep us posted on how they're doing. :o)
Shared seed update
So exciting!! From what I'm reading here these little guys are sprouting nearly a full two months behind the others seeds that you planted at the same time in April?? Glad you didn't give up on them!
I need to go look at Fuzz again now.... :))))
~Brenda
Me too! If they had been in a separate container, and not knowing then what i know now, I probably would have given up and thrown them out. Glad I didn't!
Still patiently (trying...) to wait on little fuzz...
Karen
I sowed my Rio das pedras seeds in a terrarium but can't remember what date. I believe it was in April also .... still no sign of anything from them. But, you give me Hope! I will keep looking and watching and waiting .... maybe I will get a few sprouts yet!
I'm glad there coming up! I planted some of the seeds before I sent them out to you and they came up. I thought I was going crazy for awhile.LOL.
I read in a old gessie magazine that this lady waits 6 monthes before she gives up on the seeds.
Lin,Don't give up yet theses still hope!
Ok Jan .... Yeah, I'm not gonna give up just yet! I will keep you posted .... or you may just hear me shrieking with happiness all the way to Alabama if I see any teeny green sprouts! :)
Just thought I'd let you all see what I've been doing. My seedlings from this project were getting very crowded in their "incubator"... so I thought it was time to move the babies up to a "nursery"! LOL!!!
I did this over two separate days, but I finished this evening.
This is the nursery beside the incubator. I actually ended up using the incubator as a nursery, cause I had so many to spread out.
Bottom left quadrant is the episcia mix seedlings...
Upper left is the Chirita tamiana...
Across the top is a variety of episcia stolons rooting...
the very upper right hand corner is my one and only Sinn 'Rio' seedling...
Bottom right quadrant is the strep 'Daniel'...
In the old incubator... the top half is the remaining strep 'Daniel' seedlings (had alot of them)
And the crowded Sinn. 'Purple Crest', before spreading it out...
great pictures and I am getting so excited to try these seeds..................good going.............hope i can grow these, too!!!
Those look great, Karen! You're doing a fantastic job, it looks like. :o) I know you had so much fun separating them out. Growing from seed is fabulous, isn't it?
Oh, growing from seeds is so much fun .... when they germinate! LOL. I really look forward to trying Gessie seeds! I think I will get all my supplies together in one place so I will be ready! hee hee .... am I jumping the gun here ladies? Have the seeds even been ordered yet?
They were ordered last week, but he didn't say when they would arrive............they are headed to Rain's house...................I am excited, too!!!!!!!! I will probably kill more than I grow, but that is how we learn.................
I really envy you all who can grow from seed.I sit here and am just in awe over all the babies! So far I have had Zero luck at germinating after more tries than I am comfortable to admit : ( I have one more batch of strep seeds from a trade so maybe this try will be my magic number.I soo want to be a seedling mommy! LOL
Nancy, don't feel badly............i can grow anything from cuttings, leaves, etc............and even seeds for outdoor flowers..............but i am having trouble with these gessie seeds........just thrown me for a loop.............I am used to seeing the seeds germinate in about a week to 10 days and then take off on their own.......................
Exactly my predicament Gail.I'm not giving up thats for sure. After seeing all of Karens babies I am determined to figure out how to be successful at starting gessies from seed now more than ever.
Nancy & Gail .... I too am like you gal's .... I have grown things from seed for years. Never tried Gessie seeds until I got those Strep Daniel xself from Jannich. A few of those seeds are sprouting so I am hoping they will grow and not decide to die on me. I also got some Sinningia 'Rio das pedras' seeds from Jan and sowed them in the aquarium terrarium .... absolutely nothing came from them - yet! I am still hoping since someone else's finally germinated. Jan was so sweet though .... she sent me a little Rio das pedras plant since the seeds didn't germinate! She sent me a couple of other plants too .... my one and only, very first Kohleria and a Chirita Tamiana.
Oh, how I look forward to the seeds of some of those Gessie's .... isn't it going to be fun watching and waiting to see who gets little sprouts first?!
Thank you ladies, for all your nice comments. But don't think for a minute that we don't ALL learn by trial and error! The one and only Sinn 'Rio' seedling up there... took more than 10 weeks to germinate!
And while Amy and Brenday are enjoying their Sinn. Leucotricha seedlings on another thread, I'm still waiting on the first sprout from mine. It just goes to show you never know... especially with seeds... but... that's part of the challenge, mystery, and satisfaction!
8^) Karen
:) Yeah Karen, I'm thinking maybe they just didn't want to go on a trip to different states, so they are just being mad .... I still have hopes to see some little green shooting up from the soil in my terrarium one of these days! I can't remember what date I sowed them .... wrote it down and then misplaced my note! LOL ... I know some of you "older" folks can relate to that! I should have taped the note to the back of the aquarium or something!
Yeah, I know what you mean! I keep telling myself to start a garden journal... even bought the notebook and everything... but I never "feel" like doing the book work, just the plant work!! LOL!
I tried the Journal thing here on DG and could not figure it out for the life of me! And, one time I began a journal of sorts on my computer, was gonna take photo's and label every pic and then write stuff about each plant .... well, I got a few pic's taken and downloaded. Never got any farther than that! Too time consuming and I'd rather be messing with the plants than writing about them! :)
I take pictures the day I sow seeds or transplant, or whatever. Then when I get the pictures off my camera, I can look at the details and see what day I took the picture, so I know what day the seeds were sown, or whatever. The height of laziness, for certain! LOL Actually, I'm getting a little better about putting dates on pots, so maybe that will continue. ;o)
Oh, Amy .... that is a great idea! Not lazy at all .... my kinda "keeping track"! Thaks for that - it's a great tip!
I'd start a journal...but I'd just lose it! LOL
:) hee hee .... I know what you mean! Oh, I used to be so well organized in my youth ....
Do you know that I just found out a couple of days ago that the original date I took a picture is still in the "info" about that picture when it's stored on the computer??? I may be way behind on the learning curve there :0)) but it was a great find and now I'll be able to use it the way Rain is talking about, I do like to take pictures of my plants or whatever all I'm doing with them so it will be perfect for helping me keep track!
Rose, all your various seedlings are just awesome and such a nice organized set up you have going there, everything looks great!
~Brenda
Isn't her system great? A little Plant Baby Nursery, and incubator too! I really need to get organized and get ready ahead of time for when my seeds arrive, cause I know I'm going to want to plant them immediately!
Well... I don't know about organized... but thanks! After the last conversation about the journals, you can see I'm not very organized... or is it that I'm just lazy??? LOL!!!
I have enjoyed taking photos of everything too, and keeping a kind of photo journal of their progress... but as far as organizing something, and either putting it in a book, or on the computer, or even in a DG journal... Ha! ROFLMAO!!!
That's what the thread is for!
;*)
I am so bad ... if it's not written down I forget something in five minutes! I would to finish my plant journal on the computer that I started but just never seem to find the time!
Well .... I gotta get off this computer now and go do yard work! I already did the edging, but must get the mowing done before the afternoon storms hit!
Chat with y'all later!
Lin
it is storming for the 6th day in a row.................what a shame...............i was going to Corpus Christi to run errands..........now I must stay home and play with plants!!!!!!!!!!!! (LOL)
