pieris japonica droopy

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Hi, guys. I planted a P. japonica 'Mountain Fire' last fall. It came thru the winter ok and is beginning to bloom except that the leaves look pretty droopy to me. I looked at some at the nursery and they kind of looked like mine. But then I looked at the pics of mine when I bought it last season and it's a sad imitation of it's former self. Do you think it's just dehydrated?

They do like plenty of water. Otherwise, did it get hit by that late April frost that so many people in the eastern US had?

it's looked like that all spring. even before that last cold spell. although I'm further from the coast and we didn't get hit as hard in April.

thanks, Resin. I'll give it a good soaking and make sure it doesn't dry out this season so it has a chance to really establish it's root system this season

Can you post a bigger picture? When I click on the thumbnail to make it bigger it doesn't really get very big so it's hard to see what might be going on besides just that the leaves look droopier than before. It could be watering, the only other thing I can think of is that they like acidic soil so if your pH is on the high side maybe that makes it a little sad.

sure. I can do one of those quicky soil tests, too.
