Rare white feathered Japanese morning glory

Houston, TX

I have several morning glories growing outside from samples I obtained last year at a morning glory festival. This is a rare white feathered morning glory I'm posting. The first bloom of this species is larger than the leaves and this plant is only a month old. The pictures were taken with our old Ricoh digital camera and was difficult to get excellent pictures but I'll solve that problem soon with a new Sony or Canon digital camera. A black poster board was used in some of the background to try and capture the beauty of this flower. enjoy

Last one. This plant is a little over a month old and is flowering. I finally have something to show and ask the morning glory sensei about. TTYL.

Wonderful I don't think I have ever seen anything like it. I love the look of the bloom.

Looks like the Ipomoea purpurea Gypsys Bride without the gene for spotting...

You may have one of these growing from the morning glory festival seeds. I have some other strange looking seedlings from this batch that I`m watching in anticipation. Still I`m holding quite a few of these MG festival seeds and is looking forward to obtaining some from this year`s MG festivals which starts next month.

Beautiful bloom and they don't have a lot of folliage do they?

Houston, TX

Makshi, no this one don`t have lots of folliage. Most of the leaves are very tiny and this plant is only 6 weeks old. It`s strange that it` blooming in it`s early stages of developement and/or that may be what it`s about but we`ll keep watching it. TTYL

Very interesting and beautiful, Dee! Thanks for sharing. I am growing my first purpurea plants this year, however I don't believe I planted any shredded/feathered varieties. - Arlan

Arlan,

I have lots of pink and reddish feathered type MG seeds if you want some. The white ones are mixed in with the festival seeds and I don't know which is which. Its no problem to send you some of the feathered type that I have.

Dee, thanks for the generous offer. I do have seed of feathered purpurea varieties, so I really do not need any more! I just have not reserved growing space for them yet! The next one I need to grow is the Gypsy Bride seed I received from Beth, to help increase the availability of this beauty.

Arlan, Sure No problem. Gypsy Bride is one that I haven`t tried yet as I haven`t been able to get seeds for them. It`s one of the few glories that I haven`t seen offered here. Maybe I`ll see some at the morning glory festivals.

I just about max out my growing space around my home but I have access to a vancant lot. Just don`t think I`ll be needing it for this growing season. After this season I`ll see what I haven`t grown and go from there. TTYL

I think the white is lovely. :)

I also have limited space so I`m growing in stages. I have enough time to grow two or even three(maybe) generations. So I`ll be tearing out finished vines and starting over with marked seedlings. Then I like to plan my color schemes with the roses and cannas to experimant with different combinations. Also, I have to mark the seedlings and watch out for and weed out possible volunteers. I like to catch them early to avoid disturbing roots.

That is a nice feathered flower..

The feathered I started got beat up by the wind here last week, but I've started some more, hopefully they will grow fast and have time to bloom and mature..
