One label says I. nil, the other says I. purpurea.. I'm learning the hard way.
Rosita... which is it.. I. nil or I. purpurea? That is the??
Gourd, this is an excellent question, because PlantFiles has Rosita as Ipomoea tricolor - http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/151902/index.html
and I also received Rosita in trade as "Ipomoea youjiro (I. nil x I. purpurea)"
and, now, we're wondering if its I. nil or I. purpurea
I'd love to hear an ID from the experts, too.
Hi there. I have the same frustration. But I received seed of Rosita from someone in Oregon, which is Purpurea territory. The Nhils just don't do well here.
We get off to a growing season late, and the Nhils only begin to bloom here just before first frost. The Nhil seeds , grown outside, during our true growing season for mgs, don't even get ripe. Beth and Pam can you ditto this?
Therefore I think that since I received my Rosita from someone in Oregon, that it must be a purpurea. Simply because they got ripe seeds in the Oregon climate

We need pics of identifying characteristics
Swallowtail has it listed as Ipomoea tricolor and Seedman has it listed as Ipomoea nil...
Rosita is a new marketing name that Seedman and B&T world seeds applies to anything they may have in stock...
There are some European merchants who have offered >what by every possible characteristic looks exactly like the youjiro hybrid Yaguruma

That's some great information in those links. I missed alot last year while gone from Dave's.
I like the look of Rosita, and have a couple growing from those two different sources to see what we get.
Thank you for those links..
Here is my experience with growing ROSITA last year.
Some of the blooms were in fact ‘Yagaruma’, however, most seemed to be a sport of ‘Yagaruma’ that I really liked. The blooms had more of a BRUSHED STREAKING throughout the petals with Five or Six larger than normal *Spokes*. I have not grown any from Seedman. I purchased my seeds from Hazzards and they used the same exact photo as Seedman, which as you can see from my photos looks nothing like the photo they were using.
Here are a few photos of my Rosita blooms from last year.

I am putting my nils out ealier this year so I am hoping for "outside" seeds. If they are not mature in time I can bring them in to ripen. I think it depends on how hot the summer turns out to be. Hot temps seem to delevlop the seeds sooner.
Emma, I like the brushed streakings, a different look.
The picture at seedman.com reminds me of the ensign pink or
enchantment convolvulus. Just something about it....

did you all notice that he has a link for the supplier of his photos:
someone called Mr. Morning Glory at the top of the page for seeds. I clicked on the link, but it took me to some other page. Who is Mr. Morning Glory?
Emma, I love yours and the paintbrushed look.
Thanks Jackie and Antoinette,
I really liked these blooms too.
Mr. Morning Glory's name is Ray ? something. Can't remember his last name. Lives in the UK.
I don't think he supplies the 'seeds' . . . only the photos!
"Many of our Morning Glory Photos are supplied by Mr. Morning Glory"
Emma
Oh I love that Yagaruma.. all of those are nice.. hope I get some good ones.
That Mr. Morning Glory, wouldn't you think he takes photos of real plants that he grows? How would he know what to submit? I don't think I would trust someone to just "Send the Photos", unless he grew them out to make sure.
