CLOSED: What is it?

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

I was out checking my weeping willows that I started last year and as I was walking by my rose of sharon I spotted this fellow, I haven't seen one of these around here b4, so if someone could tell me what it is, I would appreciate it, (dh says its some kind of a moth but he has never seen one like this around here b4 either)

Here's his Bug Files page if you want to add the pictures: http://davesgarden.com/bf/go/619/

It sort of looks like a Blinded Sphinx Moth....the eye spots, the vertical line down his back and the shape of his body. ?

Claypa, I think you may be right...the area around the eyespots is more yellow that pink.

You had me double-checking! I guess all the Paonias moths have some stripe down the back, and the pattern and yellow made me think it was the Small-eyed.... I've never seen one myself, it's neat.

Haha, I like to keep you on your toes!

I've never seen one either....they're very neat looking. At first I thought maybe it just eclosed...the way it's all wrinkly, but not sure.
